Samsung and Seagate

The Keeper

It is my understanding that Samsung only released the 320GB version of the new F4's (non-EcoGreen's) before Seagate bought their hard drive business. Now the question is, does anyone have any clue if we will see HDD's that perform at the level of F4's from Seagate anytime soon? Or did Seagate only get manufacturing plants, not IP's to Samsung's tech?

My guess is, that since the acquisition is not yet a done deal, no money will be spent on developing and fielding new products. That's what happens when there is uncertainty in business.

Sounds about right. It's still annoying not to have the best HDD's available since SSD's are still way above my comfort price zone.

I agree it really sucks that samsung has merged their spindle drives division and with seagate! bleah... I know they want to concentrate on ssd sales, but I'm not sure their ssds are taking the industry by storm or anything. I had to buy a 1tb yesterday and had to go with the f3...it would be nice to see some larger 7200 rpm f4s with updated firmware and faster speeds! I guess with the bigger platter size they could end up being something like 1.3tb. Even those of us with a ssd for boot still need spindle drives for storage...
