I got my airtime from cheapphonecards.com before the coupon expired, STi did not charge me for activation on their website, and the stapleseasyrebates site DID prompt for the ESN. I'm a happy camper! The sound quality on the phone could be better, but it's basically OK.

As Kwad may already have mentioned, they will debit the activation fee from your airtime balance; maybe not right away, but they will do so. Since you're GF will be using it, just make sure she knows to maintain a positive balance of airtime, otherwise if it should go negative for 14 days, you could lose your rebate and the assigned phone number.

Thanks, russ. I'll tell her to monitor the balance. It's got the default setting of announcing the balance each call.

If you did your rebate, using the Staples "easy rebate", check your status.
I checked my status the day after, and it was marked "invalid"
I had to call the staples rebate center, and they asked me for my electronic serial number.
Now the status, has been changed, to: waiting for 3rd party validation.

Mine now says "waiting for third party validation"
I was asked for the Serial Number, not the ESN.
As long as they me my $100.00, I really don't care.

Sorry to dredge this thread back up but what the hey...I just bought one of the these phones with the 12% customer appreciation coupon. 😀

Nice deal.

A few questions about this deal.

The new rebate expires today, I would still be eligible for it if i I bought the phone today right?

Is it possible to use the 12% off coupon on the phone and still be able to get the rebate?

Also, anyone know what time the night rate (.10/min) kicks in?

Yes. Read the info (at STImobile link provided earlier by allisolm) under the disclaimer for the rate plan you desire.

Thanks OP, got one with a $25 card, used the 12% coupon on both with no prob. Will make about $5 on the deal (after tax and $5 activation charge).
Nice Christmas present for my daughter, she's going to be happy. I think STI's rates are pretty good, hope Sprint's service in the ATL is decent.

I just cycled through my STI phones and made 1 call each to maintain the service.

Good thing I did. It turns out one phone has been getting a ton of text messages. Since I haven't used any of the phones myself or given out any of the numbers, I am guessing this is a "recycled" number. At any rate, these text messages resulted in only about $1.50 left on the phone at this point. Reeeaaaaallllll sneaky of them to include that 5 cents per text message charge but not tell you about it ANYWHERE when you sign up. (Probably illegal, I'm guessing). At any rate. I called in to block text messaging on the phone in question, which will hopefully keep it from going to zero...

I also noticed on other phones that the remaining balance was something like $4.80-something, not $5.05, even though I'd not made any calls. ($10 phone card - $4.95 activation should be $5.05, and it was on other phones). I'm not sure what's going on there...But it doesn't seem that those phones are draining quickly or anything. Maybe one or two text messages from STI?

At any rate: A word to the wise. Check your phones now to make sure you're not getting hammered with text messaging charges!!

I've read that people who bought at end of November and activated soon after have been getting checks. Check your status at staples rebate center page.
