I read that the 970P was a 6bit monitor, but i was curious, is the 971P the same thing (but better contrast ratio)? or is it a true 8bit?

Easy way to tell on all present TN panels:

Tilt the display back & watch how dark & distorted the picture becomes.
Typical of 6-bit TN panels.

While not an entirely scientific method, it works well.

Edit: It appears to be S-PVA according to all the links i could find; even Samsung's site describes it as a PVA panel.

So it is actually likely an 8-bit panel.

I imagine one of the LCD gurus here can confirm that.
