955DF is good enough if you dont plan to use more than 1280x1024, the 900NF is usable all the way up to 1920x1440.

My 900NF was running at 2048x1536 this weekend at 60hz. Not to say that it's usable, but the damned thing would do it, that's for sure!

If you have the money, go for the 900NF. You won't be disappointed. :D

<< better than the sonys? >>

The 900NF is comparable to the Sony G400 with the former selling more cheaper than the latter.

IMHO its not better than sonys, its good, but there is a reason why sony is much more expensive, better quality and the name. My friend has I think the 900nf and its pretty good quality, nothing to complain about you should get it.

All you're paying the extra for is the Sony plate, seriously. I dont see how Sony is better than Samsung quality wise. Oh did I also mention Sony's bad support?

Aw sit... LXi pulling out the big guns...

Anyway, if price is of importance, the 955df is definitely the monitor for you. The best value I've seen in a while for a monitor. From personal experiences, it kicks my more expensive Hitachi CM771's all over the place.

Personaly I havent had the opportunity to compare them side by side, but both of them looked mighty sweet, its a previlige to hear from people who has compared these two flat shadow mask technologies, and frankly Im surprised that you said that Hitachi lost to Samsung.

Well you better believe it. I'm mighty pissed about that too. I bought TWO of them (when I had a choice between them and the Samsung 900nf) and they are pretty expensive compared to the Samsung 955df. And when I saw my friend's 955df I felt sick. Could have saved so much more money grabbing the 955df, or at least I would have felt better just grabbing the 900nf's.

Anyway, the reason I bought them was because I was always attracted to Hitachi monitors. Certain air around them... that's what I get for buying because of name I guess.

Hitachi has always made excellent shadow masks, I have one of their older 19" models and it looks good, so has Samsung, they've always made great shadow mask monitors. To be honest I expected something like a tie, it's hard to believe the premium Hitachi charges didn't justify, especially when Hitachi spent more time than Samsung to develop the flat screen technology.

I'm somewhat disappointed in my 955DF. I really wish i would have spent the extra money and got an NF. My iiyama Vision Master Pro 450, which i think has the same DiamondTron tube the NFs have, looks alot better than my 955DF. I have the monitors almost right next to each other and the color and clarity of the iiyama is much better. My 955DF seems to somewhat hazy or cloudy to me.

Word of advice: Do not compare aperture grilles with shadow masks!

If you like AGs, I guarantee you wont like shadow masks! So you should stick to AGs if that's your standard.

which is why this comparison is a bit void... df being shadow and whatnot :) But i'd go for the nf, 16x12@68 is no good (but this tends to be a very subjective point, everyone gots different eyes).

Lxi, I think thats one of the main problems, having access to view these monitors for comparison. I believe that a lot of people don't live in areas where there are monitors displayed(or not a varied selection), thats partly the reason for the posts. And I think you're right when you say AG's can't be compared to Shadows, you really have to see them for yourself. Personally I like the brilliant colours of the AG's, which is why I'm getting the 900NF.
