Samsung 900NF Resolution?

Spoke

I thought I read somewhere that the Samsung 900NF had a resolution of 2???x15??

But when I look at an ad for it at a local comp. store it says the resolution is 1600 x 1200, 0.25mm aperture grille pitch.

So I was wondering what the correct max. res. is?

Couldn't find the monitor on the samsung website to get the real specs...

hmmm, ok, do you know the full retail name of the monitor, I'm just confused as to why the store I'm looking at has it's resolution only at 1600*1200; it's advertised as the Samsung 900NF. Is there a lower version of this monitor out there? I'd hate to pay for something that didn't have the resolution that I thought it had...

No it just seems different retails list the specs different. Maybe the 2048x1536 isn't VESA or something because like when you press the Info button on the 900nf it only goes up to 1600x1200. But appearantly you can run at that resolution just I believe I need a registry edit so windows will allow me to go above 1600x1200.

On SamsungMonitor, just select the 900nf from the pull-down menu and on the main page it says 2048x1536@69hz...

Don't be tricked by the marketing B.S. When it comes to resolution it is important to level the playing field.

The better question is what is the maximum resolution at 85Hz refresh rate. 85Hz refresh rate is the point where most people do not perceive flicker. Resolution and refresh rate go hand in hand. As resolution increases refresh rate decreases.

The 900NF is a 110Khz horizontal scan rate monitor meaning it is optimized to run 1600 x 1200 at 85Hz refresh rate, the current VESA standard. In fact a monitor with 107Khz HSR can do 1600 x 1200 at 85Hz the extra 3Khz is marketing.

The maximum resolution is 2048 x 1536 but only at 69Hz refresh rate. This number is calculated your mileage may vary slightly. At 69Hz most people will perceive flicker. Flicker is known to cause eyestrain etc.

Aaaah, thanks. That's very useful info.

Do you know of any other monitors that has a higher resolution at the 85Hz refresh rate at the 19" size?

What Gosharkss said. I just got my 900NF two days ago and I found the same things. Max res @ 85Hz is 1600x1200. It can go higher but the refresh rate drops.

Spoke

No! I looked through my monitor data base, 110Khz seems to be the max for 19". If you need higher resolution/refresh rate there are many 21" monitors some up to 130Khz. This would get you 2048 x 1536 at 80Hz, of course you will need a video card with a 360Mhz RAMDAC to do it. I know where you can find one, but I cannot say.

Ok, I think the price jump from a 19" to a 21" is too high for me even though I get the increased resolution and size, about double in price from just browsing retail ads, so I think the Samsung 900NF will do.

thanks again.

In an email from Samsung support his answer to max res was 1800x1440 @ 72hz. The max res the monitor software enables is 1600x1200 @ 85hz. The monitor will run 2048x1536 @ 60hz at 16bit only.
