Just wondering has anyone seen any information about any possible replacement models for the Samsung 850 Pro? I know the 960 version will be out soon. Just wondering if there has been any info about the 2.5 ssd versions for 2016/2017?

If samsung would have something they would of announced it a few weeks ago, but the 2.5" ssd format seems to be dead unless it has a u.2 connector and only a few mobo's have it.

Oh I don't think we've seen the end of the 2.5" SSD. Yeah, M.2 is coming but there is still a lot of demand out there for 2.5" SSD's for upgrades to system still using mechanical drives or those systems lacking an M.2.

Some are already pronouncing the death of the 3.5" drive... and now the 2.5" drive? ...don't think so. Although the Pro doesn't fill this slot, the 2.5" form will continue to be the leading consumer-level seller... and there are still those enthusiasts, like me, that have older equipment.

Yeah I think people are jumping the gun. SSD's are still a relatively young technology but have found great success. 3.5" drives, while older tech, are GREAT for long term storage & bulk storage. SSD's may one day take the place of 3.5" drives (and M.2 the place of SSD's) but not until the price comes down more for high capacity drives and they totally fix the potential long term degradation for stale data issue they have.

So far, I don't see M.2 format as being flexible enough to replace 2.5 in drives. How would you use them in a mobile rack to swap operating systems, etc.? As it stands now, I have no machine that can use a M.2. I have no desire to buy new ones just to accommodate the latest format.
