Should I get a Samsung 753df 17" monitor, or wait until I can afford a Sony E200 FD Trinitron 17" ?

Cheers

Are you sure about that Sony model # or is it CPD-E200 instead of E220?

Hi
If the Sony is a new one with FD trinitron then it´s clearly better. I bought one for my mother and it's great if you don't use very high resolutions (1600X1200)!
Myself I bought a CPD-G200 because I wanted the highest resolutions, but it's more expensive.

Are you really going to run a 17" monitor at insanely tiny resolutions of 1600x1200? I think not. Even though my 19" Dell P991 is capable of 1600x1200@85 I run it at 1280x1024@85 because I like to actually see my icons, etc. Yes the Samsung 753DF is clearly the value winner here and I think most of the non-Trinitron zealots would agree. Just take a look at these Samsung 753DF Hot Deals and Hardware threads to help your decision:

You might want to spend a little more and consider getting the Samsung 755DF but the Samsung 753DF is an awesome value.

They are quite different monitors. The samsung 753df and 755df are shadow mask monitors while the Sony E200 is a trinitron (aperture grill). They both have their advantages and disadvantages. I am partial to AG monitors because I like the generally better color and brightness.

If you want something more comparable to the Sony, check out the Samsung 700nf.

Yes you are right when you say that 1600x1200 is too small for desktopuse with a 17inch.
But when you have a really nice graphics card you can use it!

Personally, I don't have that "thing" going with Sony. Especially when talking about their monitors. That line 2/3 down from the top of the screen really turns me off.

I suggest you get the 753DF,it uses a fllat screen DynaFlat, not as good as the FD Trinitron but not as expensive either. If you can,get the Samsung 700NF,it is one of the best monitors.Sony sucks at monitors in my opinion,I've walked my home town for 3 months searching for a monitor and every shop I entered I asked the clerk to let me look closely at the monitors, even use NOKIA MonitorTest. The best is the Samsung 700NF,but you could also go for the Philips P20 or LG 795FT(my favourite, only I live in Eastern Europe and LG sell the batches rejected from Western countries here so they suck, both the monitors and LG as a firm).
And BTW,all flat screens except Flatron and DynaFlat have two barely visible lines at 1/3 and 2/3 of the screen, dampening wires.
