i've been using the 712N monitor for the past six months. It's great. at that price, i'd buy a second one.

712N does not have DVI, only analog, correct?
does DVI make a big difference over analog in terms of performace?

There is a ridiculous difference between analog and DVI. I use both inputs on my 2001FP (one PC with VGA and one with DVI) and the DVI source is infinitely clearer.

actually dvi is not needed on 17" or smaller.

That is totally depended on the quality of the ADC of the monitor on hand.

[EDIT] Just found out the glowing testimonial I wrote doesn't really work, because I too was confused between the 172N and the 712N models (which is pretty stupid of me).

I do LOVE my 172N though, and now that I know this newer model is supposed to be even better, I will almost definately purchase the 712N on BF. Sounds like a great deal to me.

i've never participated in a black friday deal. let me make sure i have this correct. i can go to my local bb tomorrow and buy this monitor for the 398 listed price, then price match them next friday (the day after thanksgiving) to get the cash back??
what are the chances bb will have this monitor on sale next friday?
also, is this monitor better quality than the solarism lm1730 listed for 245?

thanks, and i'd appreciate any info and feedback!

I just found out that 712N is a discontinued model with the 25msHere.

But it listed 12ms in ads from retalers(Fry's,Compusa,BestBuy etc.).Weird.
Someone could clarify this?

That monitor is awesome. No need for DVI, trust me (maybe if it was a 19" though). I bought it for my mom's computer and tested gaming on it all night. I'm a CRT user and I was very impressed with it. No Ghosting. Very bright and crisp. I have a 19" trinitron and will most likely jump on this deal to replace it.

so we can not buy this monitor a day or two ahead of time and PM during black friday sale right? may actually have to get there early this year.
