I am considering buying a Samsung 710N LCD monitor. I would like to hear from actual users first though. I will be using it via analog VGA due to my systems not having DVI. If the brightness and viewing angle are good (the specs numbers suggest that it's a good monitor) then I will go ahead and buy one. I also need to know the exact dimensions of the stand/base to know if it will fit on the little shelf where I would like to put it. I cannot find the dimensions of the stand on the Samsung website.

My brother got one and he seems to really like it. His 6600GT has a DVI port so he's using that. As far as I can see it looks great. He did some small color/brightness tweaking using the OSD, but it's not too bad without it. The response time is nice - no ghosting in CSS or movies.
 
I bought a Samsung 710N when they first came out and it is an excellent LCD. My only complaint about mine is that it has a few bad pixels but they don't bother me. I'd highly recommend this LCD.
 
Thanks! Do either of you have a ruler (or a sheet of 8.5" x 11" paper) handy to get a quick measurement of the base of the monitor? I need to know how large it is to see if it will fit on my little shelf.
 
The base is about 7 3/4" in diameter.

I've had mine for a few months and it's been pretty good. I haven't noticed any pixel defects on mine fortunately and the response time is generally fine for games IMO, though some exhibit a little more ghosting than I'd like while others are quite good for some reason.

There are a couple strange things about it that I have noticed:

1. The top area of the screen seems a bit darker than the bottom; something that is not highly-noticable until you look at a solid-color screen. I looked at some other brands at the store and noticed similar characteristics so I'm assuming it's normal.

2. The auto-adjust feature is great and I find myself longing for it when I use a new resolution/refresh setting on my CRT and have to adjust the size and geometry manually to get a good picture. However I find that, at least with my setup, dark text ends up with a white highlight on the right edge the way the monitor configures things so for the setup used for my Windows display I found I can manually tweak the fine adjustment to mostly eliminate this without sacrificing image quality. Clear-type helps here too.

This is my first LCD monitor so I don't have much experience with others to compare to but overall I'm happy with it.
