55" SAMSUNG LCD HDTV 1080P 120Hz

With NEW LED tech

$3600 to $3800

@ FRY's

< someone want to start a thread about LED LCD TVs ? >

Saw this deal in the ad on Friday. Unbelievable deal. Probably trying to clean out inventory to make room for new models. If I didn't already have a Samsung 4071F and a Sony 57" Rear Projection, I'd be in on this.

They raised the price back on the A550 to $1999.. I jumped on it when it was $1299 with free shipping. It's set to arrive on Thurs. 🙂 It'll be a nice change from my current 37" Olevia. I would've jumped on the A630, but they were only offering local pickup option..

I love my 32" olevia for what I paid, but that should be one hell of an upgrade

Thanks! I agree - I paid $600 for my 37" Olevia like 2 years ago. It's a great screen imo - despite what people were saying on the net back then. She'll be relocated to my bedroom and hopefully my wife would let me watch sports on the big screen now.. Lol.

Just a quick heads up, I had nothing but problems using this TV with my HTPC. It seems some of the sets have a bug where AMP gets stuck on even if set to "off" in the menu. I was happy with this set but ended up returning it due to the bug. I got a 650 in its place and was amazed at the increase in image quality. Overall this is a great price for this size set as I paid this much for a 46'' 650 series but just be aware there MIGHT be issues when connecting it to a PC.

I don't see the A550 anywhere, but the B550 is still $1299 (LN46B550).

Wow that's a great deal on that 52" A630.

Anyone know what the big difference between the A630 and the A650 is?

I'm going to go research this, but I'm hoping someone has already done the leg work for me!

Ok, so what's the difference between the Samsung A and B series (A550 vs B550)?

I've only ever seen A series. This is the first I've seen of a Samsung "B" model. Is that specific to Fry's?

The A series are 2008 models.
The B series are 2009 models.

I believe that the 5xx series is 60 Mhz refresh while the 6xx are 120 Mhz refresh.

The difference between 530 vs. 550 and 630 vs. 650 are contrast ratios. (Not sure about the actual numbres.)

Aha!

Thanks!

The 630 has a matte screen for less reflections but this also reduces the contrast ratio.......

Nice TV. Not to start a flame war, but personally I switched to plasma (Panny 850U) and am much more satisfied. The "pop" of LCD looks nice in the showroom, but when you're home watching films you really appreciate the deep, rich colors and blacks and silky smooth picture of plasma. But again, the Samsung A650/630 is a great TV.

Got one as well. Had to pay $25 recycling fee for CA though. I heard Amazon doesn't pass this on to consumers?

Thanks OP!
