http://www.behardware.com/articles/667-...-226bw-a-and-s-series-the-verdict.html

This article basically states that there are three versions of the 226BW 22" monitor: S, A, and C. Each uses a different panel from a different manufacturer. They are, in order of quality:

S Samsung (LTM220M1)
A AU Optronics (AU M220EW01)
C CMO (M220Z1)

They also mention an AMLCD 220M1 panel which the article shows as an S model. Something is mentioned about the LTM220M1 and AMLCD 220M1 panels being related somehow. I don't quite understand this. Perhaps someone could explain.

Anyway, I would like to purchase a 226BW. Does anyone know how I can be sure to get a Samsung panel? Perhaps there is a batch of them known to be at a certain vendor?

By the way, here is a review of 22" LCD's including the 226BW. It was written before the panel discrepancy was discovered.

The only way to be sure is to phisically go to the store and look at the sticker on the back of the panel.

Personally I would just buy the Samsung 226BW with a colour calibration device like a ColorVision Spyder2Express ,they are really worth the money IMHO and will help you get the best out of whatever panel you end up with,as well as being handy for when you upgrade your LCD/video card etc...
I don't think there is a big difference between the panels on the 226BW,I bet after proper calibration you could not tell the difference.

You can't. They left the label off the box (only on monitor itself), probably for this reason, which seems to be backfiring... If you REALLY have to get an S panel, then buy it from a BB or a store with a no hassle return policy so you can exchange it 10 times, ruin their stock and get your 1 measely panel. IIRC, there are 4 now: S, A, C and an R somewhere. Good luck?

I may just splurge and get a 24" MVA or IPS panel. Would I really be losing that much going from 2ms to 5/6/8ms?

Most definitely not.

Besides, the Samsung isn't really 2 ms. IIRC, it's only 2ms gray-to-gray.

Response time isn't really an issue on any new LCDs IMO, & a higher end 24" would be a huge upgrade.
