Samsung 22 inch widescreen 5ms newegg $379.99

On sale at circuit city b&m this week for $399 no rebates. You'll have to pay tax, but you can also buy an extended warranty, which I like to do for monitors, since you never know what'll happen...

I own one. It's pretty nice. Slight ghosting. Some blacklight bleed at very top and very bottom, but not so much to be a dealbreaker. Bright. Good colors. I experience some irritating tearing in online FPSs. I don't know if that's because of my vid card (7900GTO), the crappy DSL I'm on right now, or the monitor itself. Vsync fixes it, but the max refresh is 60hz.

From what I understand, the panel in it is a proprietary Samsung panel-- not the same as the Chimei. It is a TN-III panel, if that means anything to anyone; I don't know if that makes it a true 16.7 mil color panel or not. It's difficult to find any real information about it.

The ACER or the Chimei might be a better deal, but I've never seen those in person. I really liked how the Samsung looked when compared to the others, so I was willing to shell out the extra $100. The extra height of a 22-inch widescreen really makes it nice, when compared to a 20-inch widescreen.

I'm pretty sure the list price is $399. So that's no bargain. As a matter of fact that's Best Buy's regular (non-sale) price.

Actualy, if you go to "Bens" and click through to CC, you get and additional 10% off.

So...

$399.99 CC price
-$40.00 10% off
---------
$359.99 (Subtotal before tax and shipping) -save shipping by picking it up.

Also, you get a $30 Gift Card for free too so...
$329.99 (technically)

I've been trying to find a nice LCD panel for a while now. This looks pretty good, but are the 16:10 (They are 16:10 and not 16:9, right?) panels the wave of the future or just a passing fad? Because I'm either going to do that or eventually get two 4:3's.

Wide format isn't going anywhere. Either way I wouldn't worry about it because it just makes the monitor suitable for double duty (video & PC).

I've found the wide format to be a little restrictive on 1280x800 laptop screens but this was due to only having 800 lines vertically to work with. I think if anything you should be worried about the native resolution being good enough for you. Some people would be a lot happier with 1920x1200... but the cost of entry is nearly twice as much.

I think these 22" solutions are going to be very popular, because to the average person it's an extra 2" for free. It also crosses into a nice "just big enough" size for use as a TV.

Personally I would get one through Costco if I was looking. Can't beat the return policy and support. I believe that Samsung is a superior brand but the Costco support takes that advantage pretty much out of the equation, making the savings a bit of a no brainer.

If decide to go with a Sceptre model, you might want to try and pick up one of those $20 stands that Staples is clearing out. The Sceptre stand isn't hieght adjustable and the angle isn't very flexible. The Enzo(sp?) stand fixes all of that.

Yep... $399 is the regular price. Was looking at this too the other day, but I think I'll wait to see what Dell prices their new 20" widescreen at first as it gets closer to Christmas since they're the same res.
