Samsung 19" monitor 955DF or 957MB?

I am looking for a new monitor. Narrowed it down to either Samsung or Sony.
Samsung is getting good reviews and I was thinking about getting 19" 955DF or 19" 957MB. They both look good.

From a product description: 957MB is featuring MagicBright technology. The monitor offers three separate brightness modes optimized for a variety of PC, Internet and entertainment applications.

This monitor costs about 80 bucks more then 955DF and I would like to know if MagicBright thingie is worth it. Does anyone have this monitor and are you happy with it?

Thank you for any info.

i have a 955DF and it's pretty sweet. i haven't used it since i have my nice small lcd now though. if you are in CA, i can hook you up with a sweet deal on mine, i NEED to get rid of it. it's big =)

I wouldn't recommend paying $80 extra for some supposed quality enhancing features. Companies like this constantly revamp the previous product with something that costs less each time, but try to make it sound like something better.
I'd get the older model, I have a 755df and it's quite good.

I have a Samsung 955DF and two 900NF's. I love Samsung products but don't really use the monitor as I upgraded to a Samsung 19" LCD.

Don't know much about the Sony, but is it the one with the two annoying horizontal red lines? =T.

get a 900NF, its a sweet monitor, im looking at one now and its way better than the 955DF on my family's computer. Better refresh rates and sharper colors make it worth the extra money.

I have a Samsung 957mb and I don´t think magicbright is very useful, I never use it.
But I don´t know if that´s the only difference between the two monitors.

Thanks for all replies.

CompUSA and Best Buy have been overrun with flat panels lol.
I found one Viewsonic and one Samsung 955. I will give it some more thought and probably wait if anything goes on sale after christmas.

I like looking at the 957MB moreso than the 955DF, personally. I would probably go with the 957MB because I enjoy looking ati t. However, the monitor *I* would buy right now is the NEC FP912SB...by far the best 19" CRT money can buy and I know people would agree in here. Its about $280 (+/- $5-10) online and has great refresh rates, too. I don't understand why people recommend the 900NF still . . . do you guys realize how hard it can be (and expensive) to find one of those now? They've been out of production for quite a while now.

I have two of the 955DF monitors and I have been relatively pleased with them for the last three years. One important thing to note is that if you like to run high resolutions, you may want a better monitor (1600x1200 has a max refresh of 60Hz). At the time I bought the monitor, flat screen monitors were quite expensive still so this was a trade off which I am willing to tolerate; however, I am definitely looking to replace them once I have a bit more cash.

I have a 900NF now but couldn't find any at a local B&M like cusa, cc, bb, od. has anyone seein this monitor around? I've had it for about 3 or 4 years now and it's still going great. the text is good (i code all day) and pictures look great. i also run it at 1280x1024@100Hz.

The 900NF's are near impossible to find these days, although there are plenty of other good Diamondtron-based monitors out there....but BNC connectors are rare

i had some trouble locating diamondtron 19inchers recently....cnet had a good roundup at one point....i hear nec makes one cheap, but i also hear its not that great....

fwiw, i bought a ViewSonic UltraBrite A90F+ and it's either the current settings or the 900nf is starting to show its age, because the vs is so much brighter and text is a lot crisper. it can only do 85Hz at 1280x1200. the 900nf does it at 100Hz. i'm switching the a90f+ as my main monitor and the 900nf is 2ndary. bb currently has it for $230

ps: i've read that the a90f+ is not a "true" flat screen but I can't tell (if it's flat, it has shadow mask since i don't see the two thin lines across the screen)
