Samsung 173p 17" LCD $349 AR

Was about to spend $430 AR at JR.com, which would have been a great deal I thought, when I stopped by the local CC and found 173p being sold for $349 after a $50 rebate. If you know anything about this monitor, you know that is an unbelievable deal. I still think it must be some kind of mistake on CC's part. It shows up as $499 AR on their website.

i paid 599 for this monitor last year, and it was well worth it. it is very versatile, with dual input. you hold down the power button for 3 sec to switch between inputs. if you can afford it go for a dell 19 in though. its under 500 with the 25% off coupon.

This LCD has great features etc etc, but it doesn't have a good response time.

Text quality was clear, crisp, and easily readable on both analog and digital inputs. With this monitor targeted at gamers as well as office users, an important factor in visual quality is the response time, listed at 25ms. Gaming was unexpectedly better on the 173P than many other 25ms displays we?ve seen. Still, FPS games were playable, but had noticeable ghosting even on the DVI input.

This is a hot deal for Mac users mostly, and other people who prefer aesthetics over performance, and don't mind paying a premium for aesthetic eye candy. I value the actual LCD screen I am looking at more than the bezel and buttons around it, so this is a cold deal for me.

You can get a 19" for that much with DVI and 16ms RT.

Share the love! I would love one at that price.

Yeah, really. Garlic, if you're going to crap on a thread, at least back up your statement. Otherwise, your post was a pointless threadcrap.

Uh, how about some facts to support the threadcrap? The 173p is an excellent monitor (I, like many people, don't game and could care less about <25ms RT) that people have been paying over $500 for until recently because it offers top notch image and text output. The fact that it looks great is secondary.

Yup, I got the black version last year. The border is super thin, looks good, but it's not as sharp as my Sony S81 for text, even with DVI. And there's one "huge" problem with this series, the EFFING power LED won't shut off or stay put when you shut off your system, it keeps blinking when in power saving mode. And because the LED is so damn bright, it gets annoying after a while. I had to tape the damn LED over with black electrical tape.
