Sams Club getting barebones (also laptopdeal)

I have a friend that is a manager at a local Sam's club who informed me that their Sam's club with soon start selling barebones PC's
(Box, Motherboard, Processor). I would imagine, these suckers are going to have good prices, so keep your eye out for them at your local Sam's B&M..

He did not have any information on whether this is going to be a nationwide deal or what kind of equipment this is going to be...

Thats a ripoff, i hope that was not what he is talking about but, it probably was (he is an idiot).

I think I might get one so I can have one of those cutting edge Savage cards though hehe

"easy to use Linux included on two CDs"

Whoa, must be some distribution I've never heard of....
He he he... Linux is fun to make fun of....

Hey man I had a Savage for 2 years!

But yes, it sucked.

Well, I don't know. 😉 Let's do the math:

case with 300W PS -- $50
video card -- $30
cpu fan/heat sink -- $20
keyboard -- $5
optical mouse -- $10
floppy drive -- $5
motherboard w/ sound & lan -- $50
---------------------------------------------
subtotal -- $170

Now, the 2-CD linux, guide/manual and toll-free support have got to worth $20.

So the grand total is $190, leaving $10 for profit.

Hey, this is assuming I was out buying those parts, Sam's probably get these at half the price. Maybe even I could make some money doing this...😉

It says it's a Sis 735 motherboard with 2 DDR and 2 SDR RAM slots. That probably narrows the possible manufacturers.

Looked it over- will probably pass.

Was kinda interested in the Case, however- $40- and it kinda looks like a Enlight- but I doubt it has rails...

How disappointing! I had visions of another great place to get a quick deal but after using theshamu's mathamatical run down...I think I'll be choosing my own barebones packages...with of course the easy to use Windows CD...😉

Chancellor, FYI - Your account information can be accessed if you remain logged in @ Sam's Club.

Next time, just cut 'n paste the description.

Well at least if you can pick up at Sams B&M there's no S&H (okay theres sales tax) and most of all you can return it for a full refund if it doesn't work ( 2 weeks ?) . With the somewhat iffyness of these ECS/PCCHIPS motherboards, being able to return it easily is major consideration.

I can personally recommend the case they're selling. I bought an exact same one (assuming the pic is accurate) at the computer show couple of weeks ago; it is very well built, very smooth edges and easy to work with. $40.00 for a 300W case is not bad at all. As for the bundle, I'll pass 🙂

Hey I also just found on the sams website a descent deal on a HP Pavilion xf125 Notebook if anyone is interested it is $1049, not bad...
AMD Duron? 1GHz
384MB SDRAM
20GB
DVD-ROM
14.1" XGA

Linkage

Just call me the king of Sams hehe

Heh.. I got the same thing.

I saw the barebones at my local GA Sams B&M today. It lloks good bu seems to be only a warm deal . After adding the other stuff from places like NewEgg I wind up with a price slightly ( a few $) more than a local independent " burn-in " shop . I am glad to see more competition .

"Video Memory: 16MB video memory (shared with main system memory, user configurable to 32MB)
Display: 14.1" XGA (1024x768) TFT "

This thing may not have a decent video card and the display is only XGA not SVGA like many others nowerdays.

I also did not see MS Works with Word2002, but other off-brand productivity software.

These findings make that laptop deal warm at best.

Yo
