Hi,

Has anyone purchased this unit yet? I need a laptop for DVD viewing, web surfing, VERY light gaming, and the usual productivity applications (MS oFfice). I have some questions for you about this notebook;

1-How is the quality of the LCD? I was very dissapointed by the quality of the Averatec 12.1 LCD I saw in store at Sam's Club, it was washed out and very dependent upon the angle which you are viewing it from.

2-How are the built in stereo speakers? Are they tinny or do they sound OK? I am buying a laptop primarily for DVD viewing and would like decent speakers. Most portable DVD players sound like AM radios, I hope this laptop is better.

3-I am not a huge gamer but would enjoy a game here and there. Does this machine have enough power for some basic gaming? I know that cutting edge stuff will choke it but what about in general?

4-What is the folio style I have heard this referred to as?

5-Finally how long does the battery last and how long does it take to charge?

Thank you very much for any insights you can offer.

the celeron M is better than the amd sempron...they perform on par with pentium M, just not as great as battery life since they only have two modes, full speed or battery mode...unline the pentium M where it can just downclock when needed...

Try this in microcenter. If you apply the visa credit card in the store, you can get $100 rebate more.

gaming..which brings me to the next topic... the celeron-m processor may be better (for a laptop platform such as this) than the sempron, but then your stuck with intel extreme graphics...lol

i'll take my chances with the km400 chipset in that averatec, at least it has somewhat decent directx support that will play halflife 2 or unreal 2004 in dx 7/8 mode.

Sempron 2600+ is (should) be based off a athon64 (1600mhz) chip no 64 bit capabilities, but all the extra registers and SSE2 and its 33mhz faster, good power managemnet, and gobs of memory bandwidth.

acer sure has a funny looking keyboard the way it is curved and all.

anyone have a chance to get hands on with this acer or the avartec? How is the keyboard? How does it compare to dells and thinkpads????

Thanks!!!!!

Any information/answers to my questions above would be very appreciated.

Samus does this mean the Intel Extreme graphics in the Acer cannot play games at all? I thought that Intel Extreme was 3D acceleration, just not the greatest. I am running an Athlon 1.2 now with an original ATI Radeon and I can play most games fine though I need to tone down the settings on some. Surely the acer must be more powerful than this setup?

Actually it's been stripped of speedstep so it can't dynamically change frequency and voltage like the Pentium M.
