Dear Board of Admissions, Harvard School of Law,

My name is Dick Lesswonder and I'm applying for admission to your fine institution.

After being prosecuted for various offenses and not being able to represent myself in an efficient manner, I deemed it necessary to procure the education that will enable me to commit crimes of great social and moral depravity without fear of consequence or imprisionment.

Harvard Law is well-known for producing some of the finest Criminal Defense Attorneys in the world; I want to be part of that legacy. It's in your best interest to approve my admission; I know where you live.

Sincerely,
Dick Lesswonder

Letters of recommendation are really only worth a damn if they are personalized. It must be clear that the person who is writing it should be familiar with the quality of work / character of the subject.

Professors are excellent sources for such letters, as they write a ton of them for undergrad pimple farmers.
