Sammy 830 on the way out ?

Elixer

Lifer
Today, booted machine, and came to the dreaded 0xc00000e9 error (corrupted registry)... fine, no worry, since I had a backup.
Did the secure erase, and then restored.
Booted again, and the same thing. Last known configuration wouldn't work either.
Bah, bum backup ? No problem, I have a older one...
Secure erase again, and restored and ... exact same thing. WTH!?

I had a old vertex 2, so I restored it on that one. Booted, and it worked just fine.

Secured erase the sammy yet again, and cloned from vertex to sammy and ... exact same thing, sammy wouldn't boot. Same error (corruption).

SMART info on the sammy looks fine, nothing at all bad about it.

Not cable, not PSU, not system, so I guess this means that the sammy 830 is about to die. 🙁
It was only 1 year old, so it still has warranty.

Anyone ever did a RMA with samsung ? How long is the turnaround time with them ?

OCZ was awesome in that regard, soon as they got the drive, I had a new one in my hand the next day, red label UPS.

Sounds like an SSD problem, but who knows. It might work fine in another computer, or with a fresh OS install, but it would be hard to trust it with any important data. I would try a temporary fresh install, just for the heck of it...

Use crystaldiskinfo free small app. That will say if your SSD is 100 percent, or its less and what is causing it. give her a try. If its like 96 percent healthy it can still operate but I would backup your shiz as soon as possible. google in, crystaldiskinfo ,,,, let us know with a screen shot or what percent its at. The wear level lift exptancy and what not. gl

I'd try the Samsung on another computer before RMA.

Windows won't load on another computer, since it isn't the same chipset.

In any case, wow, what horrible online chat service.
They were clueless on everything.

Can't create a RMA, since it says serial # is invalid, which isn't the case, as they list the same serial number.

Sheesh.

Yeah... too hard to trust now, doing some random tests with linux right now.
Actually, it is less than a year old. July 30 2012 is when I got it.

Well, got the replacement SSD today.
OCZ sent me a new, sealed, drive direct from Taiwan when I had to do RMA from them.
Samsung sent me a "Refurbished" SSD in a generic box.

What the heck is a Refurbished SSD anyway ?
They wiped the SMART info from it, so I can't tell if they are using new NAND chips, or just what part of the SSD is using old parts.

I have to say, OCZ treats its customers better, overall, and doesn't get into this 'refurbished' nonsense.

I had a good experience with OCZ RMA too. Very pleasing customer service, although I do wish they had sent me back something better than the 50GB Vertex 2 that kicked the bucket.

I had a bricked Samsung 840 Pro that I RMA'd. Process was very quick, perhaps because their facility is next door in NJ. I too got a refurb in a generic box, but so far it's performing the same as my new retail drive. I have no idea how they "refurb" these things.
