Perhaps this is a stupid question, but it's got me thinking and it could be useful to know the answer.

The last set of tires I bought was for my wife's Volvo which is a 2005 S40. The tires are Yokohama S.drive sized at 205/50-17. I think they've been pretty good tires and easily the best of the 3 sets it has worn.

As my 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis will need tires in the relatively short term I'm considering the same S.drive tires in a 235/55-17 size.

Will the same tire model in 2 different sizes on 2 very different cars yield similar performance? I'm thinking it won't but I don't have any real data to successfully conclude anything. I'd like to know if anyone has done this and their thoughts on it. I may give it a go when the time comes.

Thanks

I would think that the tires would last longer on the RWD car if you rotated them more than on a FWD car because of all the weight distribution.

The inherit characteristics of the tire will be the same. The ultimate performance of the vehicle will be different because the vehicles are vastly different (duh). You'll still get good wet grip, a quiet ride, and decent steering response though. The S.Drive is good tire choice.
