Same DIMMS work fine alone, but not together?

Here's a bizarre problem:

I have two 256mb DIMMS (Crucial PC-133 CS2) that each work fine alone, but won't work together. They are labeled the same but purchased at different times.

I used Norton SystemWorks memory test: whenever both modules are in the box, the memory test fails. I've tested each module separately, and in each DIMM slot, and they both pass individually. Put them together, in any of the 3 slots and the test fails. Also, I slowed down all BIOS obtions to the most stable settings but no difference in results.

Any ideas?

It sounds to me like both of the DIMMS together are
functioning fine but failing Nortons test correct? If that
is the case I would not worry too much about it.

There are some motherboards that don't work well when more than 1 or 2 dimm slots is populated however if they run everything well and your mobo recognizes the total amount of memory and the only failure is a memory test I would not worry about it.:)

that is a 100% motherboard problem.
try playing musical slots with the sticks and run settings by spd specs.
