Call the police, file a lawsuit for harrassment, launch a negative publicity campaign, put ads in the local paper, talk to local radio or tv...etc. There are many options.
You know what? You give me an idea. From now on when they call I am just going to speak Spanish and tell them that I don't speak English. If they put someone on the phone that speaks Spanish them I'm going to start speaking German. No way they can win then.

if they notice you speaking different languages wouldn't that make them more suspicious?
i'd just wait for the local AG & claims u filed to turn out
next time they call ask for thier supervisor if u havn't tried that already

Just have a nice long conversation with them when they call, do NOT say you are the person and dont say youll pay, just talk talk talk, (make sure your recording it too !)

You could do that, but my idea is more interactive and entertaining.
Also, if you have a fax machine, or you could even use your modem, have it call the phone number they are calling from repeatedly. If you have ever had a fax call your phone number, you know how annoying it is. Show them you are not a person to be messed with!:evil:
haha, I have the same problem, collection agencies, nordstroms, and lawyers were calling my number and leaving vmails 5-10 /week for a lady which I had never heard of for the past 2 years. I even left a message on my voicemail that this person does not exist and if they continued I would report them for harassment. This would work and it's be quiet for a few weeks, but the calls would come back once I took off that message...
Try using "The Ring" prank on the agency. Also find out any e-mail address for the company and go to one of those sites that automatically signs up an e-mail address to every spam list in existence.
A local real estate agent has my cell phone number listed as his on http://www.realtor.com. I get calls for him all the time.

Contact a lawyer. They will write them a letter saying they are no longer to contact you what so ever, and if they continue then you will have grounds for a harrasment suit. Trust me, once they get a letter from a lawyer they will stop dead in their tracks.
It's not even under the OP's name. YOu can't force someone to pay because the phone number is messed up.
Seriously, just threaten to sue their sorry @$$es and ask to speak with the manager. They'll stop calling you.

Start recording the calls... sue... profit. Since I'm sure it sounds like typical poor advice on ATOT, I'll look for the article in the Buffalo News about a company in Buffalo that was sued for the same thing... they ended up in bankruptcy over it.

I had the same sort of problem for almost two years right after I got a new phone number. Businesses and collection agencies calling all the time and asking for the guy who apparently had the number before I did. Just explaining to the legitimate businesses like Ford Financing and Bank One got those taken care of, but the collection agencies were another matter. I guess they just assume that you're lying to them.
Finally I put a message on my answering machine that said, "If you are calling for Alexandra please leave a message. If you are calling for James *******, please leave the number of your supervisor or the business who hired you so that I can explain to them that you are wasting their money and not even trying to do your job because I have explained over and over for the almost two years since the phone company gave me this number that I do not know James *******.
The calls dwindled down to almost none very soon after that and then eventually to none at all.
Edit: And for those saying to call the phone company, I did that early on and they told me that all they could was change my number if I wanted them to.

I used to get calls for a moving company non stop and the company in question never took down my phone number from their website, inspite of me mailing them about it.
It stopped when I gave their rival's number to all the customers who called. Within a week, the company took out my number and put another one in place

We have a few attorneys in our family, and anytime we've found ourselves getting ganged by a business (specifically, landlord and collections agency), we just had one of the esquires send them a love letter.
Worked both times.
Collection agencies are every bit as scummy as the people from whom they're trying to collect.

Nice. That was a great idea.
Exactly. Alot of the times people that owe money will make up this excuse, so the collection agency might not believe that it isn't you.
Record them saying something like that and then sue.
