Samba really slow

I am running a samba 2.0.6-9 server on redhat 6.2. I am trying to copy files back and forth between the linux computer and several of my windows computers. When transferring files, it only runs about 200-300 kB/sec. This is on a 10/100 switched LAN, and when I had windows 2000 on the computer that now has linux on it, it ran at about 6-7 MB/sec.

Does anyone know what is wrong here?

You're sure it is only a samba problem?
Tested performance using different methods (http/ftp/etc) also?
