Samba question

I configured Samba and have shares available to my Win boxes. But I want to change the hostname of my Linux box. Doing so kills the Samba shares. I tried changing the hostname, editing the smb.conf file, and restarting smb, but no luck.

How do I change my hostname without affecting Samba?
