Sam Bowie out for the year with fractured patella (oops, I mean Greg Oden)

Oden is just awesome. I haven't really followed him much in pro, but saw a bit of him when he played at OSU. He's like the humble giant, and oddly enough I have a hometown friend pretty similar (whose brother plays at UM for football).
Watching Oden in post-game interviews always made me smirk. It's always so odd seeing his personality type in such a beastly figure. 🙂

There hasn't been much to follow as a pro...he's been injured so much. And when he plays, he gets in foul trouble. This year started out being a breakout year tho...so much for that.

LOL at the Sam Bowie part but Im willing to bet most members here werent even born yet when Bowie was drafted.

And I thought M. Knight Shamalamadingdong made up that disease when he came up with the Mr. Glass character for his movie Unbreakable.

Somebody with the Blazers better start force-feeding this guy calcium and Vitamin D. Fracturing your patella on knee-knee contact is somewhat of a fluke injury -- and he's done it *twice* in one calendar year, on the same knee.

The collision with Maggette in Feb 09 resulted in a "chipped" left knee cap and only a few weeks missed, but I would imagine from the out-for-the-season speculation now, that he's broken it real good this time. I wonder if that first injury predisposed him to this one. Watch the video, that's a relatively minor collision, compared to the way you typically end up with a patella fracture, by falling on it with all your weight, or having feet planted and taking the brunt of a high speed collision directly to your knee.

Microfracture surgery at age 19 is far more troubling and ultimately career-shortening than relatively simple stuff like patella fractures, but throw in some foot trouble too and the pattern here is not looking good at all. Sucks for Oden, he seems like a decent guy.

because they know he wasn't going to amount to anything.
good comparison to bowie because durant is already an established superstar.

No question. He's improved significantly each year and has learned how to play a complete game.

stats

His obvious weakness is 3's. He's shooting 46% yet is <30% behind the arc. He'll probably take the offseason to shoot endless 3's, and get that up closer to 40%. Its great to see a player with so much talent and potential put in the hard work to improve for himself and to lead his team.

barring and unforeseen injury, this guy is going to be dominating in a couple of years.

he's got height/length, agility, outside shooting. he's like lamar odom, but 100x better.

I'd love to see him workout with Tim Grover in Chicago. He's generally considered the best strength and conditioning trainer for nba players and he could probably do wonders for Durant, particularly for rebounding and defending as well as his post game.

He's infinitely better than Lamar Odom. Odom is so hot and cold. He's never consistent enough.

Durant is just a beast and consistently scoring high and even averaging higher than Lebron in rebounds 7.0 to 6.9, steals 1.8 to 1.3, blocks 1.0 to 0.8 and free throw percentage 88.3 to 78.3 so far this season. Plus 3rd in scoring with 28.3pts. THIS KID IS ONLY 21!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LOL. I wacthed that movie and thought it sucked, but this comment made me laugh.

It would be nice to see Oden healthy a full year though.
