Saltines are pretty much the AMC Gremlin of snack food. Surely you can do better than that.

x=soup
y=crackers

If you Have(x,y) and you Want(x,y)
Have(x,y);
Else Have(x);

Give me enough saltines and I'll turn every soup or chili into a cracker mush.

:biggrin:

I like mixing these into my soups a bit.

Just one of my all time favorites I guess for cheap crackers.

For chili I used to use saltines, but these days I'd rather put it on a good hot dog or over spaghetti or linguine.

I think of good chili as a precious item :)

Saltine crackers do not belong "in" soups. You take a spoon of soup, eat it, then munch on the cracker, but its tremendously uncouth to crumble saltine crackers in soup or chili or chowders. Very white trashy, and a pet peeve of mine.
Oyster crackers, on the other hand, are made to be put into soups and chili.

Isn't that why Wendy's gives you a packet of two saltines with their Chili, to crumble into it?

Because you say so? o_O

It doesn't take a genius to explain why taking "a bite" of a saltine is a bad idea. I consider it distasteful to cover my table and floor with your cracker bits. :colbert:

Here's my preference order for crackers in soups: Oyster Crackers > Ritz > Saltines

In potato and tomato soup I'll sometimes use Cheese-Its.

Yes, because I say so. It makes much more of a mess to crumble up crackers and try to dump them into soup or chili as they will go everywhere, all over the table, on your clothes, all over your hands (assuming you are using saltines out of a box like you buy at the store.)

By contrast, when you bite a saltine, the crumbs stay in your mouth or the minute few that might drop down, go directly on top of the soup or your napkin.

Dude, one of my favorite white trash lunches is Campbell's Alphabet Soup with a half a pack (or more) saltine crackers mushed up in it, with a bologna and cheese sandwich for dipping. If you can get all of the broth gone and just eat the leftover mush stuff it's heaven :D

I'm not proud. I only eat this when nobody is watching and I can shame-eat like a caveman.

No. When you bite into a saltine the entire thing self-destructs into a pile of bits and pieces, assuming you were able to get a whole one out of the package in the first place.

It isn't a phenomenon limited to saltines. Crunchy tacos self-destruct too.
