Salsa dancing

Anyone ever done it? Was it extremely hard to learn at first?

From a thread I posted last week, the girl I want who I can't have wants to do more and more stuff together (I can't tell if it's as friends or what but that's beside the point) and she signed up for salsa classes at her dance studio and asked me to be her partner.

I'm just a little nervous b/c I've never done it (or any real dancing before) and was curious as to the overall difficulty and learning curve to it. (She didn't say if it was a beginner's class or like an intermediate class though)

it's all in the music.
All you gotta do is go with it 🙂
Being the man, you usually lead the girl with the steps.

I have done it. It really depends on the quality of the instruction and your general rhythm. I didn't find it too hard, espcecially the basic moves. It's the turns that are a little more confusing.

Salsa is great. I've never had any instruction so I'm probably not doing the classical salsa moves but the wife is Mexican and we dance a lot to salsa and merengue. I just learned from her and from watching others dance.

it's also known as mambo (atleast that's what I've been told), and it's real easy. It's just a 3 step beat: quick-quick-slow. If you've ever done anything that required dexterity reasonably well you'll do fine at this.

I do alot of dancing (club, ballroom and concert) my biggest advice is to make sure her arms aren't like spaghetti. You'll find when there's no tension in the frame (closed or open) it's much harder to lead.
