If you buy something online at compusa.com/bestbuy/circuitcity and choose in-store pick up as your option, do you have to pay the sales tax?

yes. you have to pay sales tax regardless of how its delivered. just because its really easy to cheat on your sales tax when you get an item shipped from out of state doesn't mean you don't ahve to pay them

does the place youre ordering from have a business presense in the state you live in? (ie a B&M store youre picking it up from?)

if so, then yes you do.

According to NY laws (at least), you're supposed to pay tax on out of state purchases.

Wow this is news to me...I've been ordering things online for years and I never paid sales tax on any of it.

Yeah, generally there is a place where you are supposed to declare it on your state income tax paperwork.

Vendors are supposed to charge sales tax on items sold via the Net if they matain a presene with the state that the order is placed.

If you pick up an item from a B&M then that would require sales tax (if exists) because the vendor must have a presense (for you to recieve it).

Most states also ask you to declare items that you purchased and do not pay sales tax on via your yearly tax forms.

if you have it shipped to a state in which there is a B&M establishment you will be charged sales tax

if you ship newegg to cali, you will be charged sales tax

if you ship best buy/cusa to anywhere you will be charged sales tax

the fact that you are picking up the item pretty much guarantees there is a B&M in your state, so yes, you will be paying sales tax
