SALARY Law Abuse Poll

If you are being abused, quit and get a new job.

You will probably find you will make less money when you are only expected to put your 40 hours in.

Are you sure that the abuse is the more than 40 hours, charrison, or the lack of compensation for doing a non-managerial position? I've yet to hear complaints about the hours. I have seen the complaints about the compensation for time served. By law if you are not a manager then you are due overtime for work past 40 hours/week in most circumstances.

MadRat,

Once again. If you dont like it, quit. It is that simple. Find a job where you are only required to work your 40 hours and you will compensated accordingly. You will most likely be paid less, but you will have more free time. It is a trade off, see how that works?

Why would I quit my job? I don't even have to put in 40 hours to get paid in full.

Any employer that quivels over paying overtime is an employer I'd never think twice about leaving. The truth is that people do not know the rules and they are being taken advantage of unfairly. If someone works a sixty hour work week then they need to be compensated for seventy hours by law. The only loopholes are for managers and companies that are smaller than the minimum number of employees.

madrat,

You do not seem to understand. I had a buddy that bitched about being taken advantage of because of the hours he put in. Guess what he did not quit because he could not find a job that paid as much. He finally took a new job where he can clock his 40, but he makes less now. Was he being abused by the company, or was his own greed abusing him?

If he wasn't management then it was the employer on the wrong side of the issue. He was wise to take the pay cut.

MadRat, there are many non-managerial jobs that do not qualify for overtime. If the job can be classified as "professional", then they generally do not get overtime pay. Engineers, architects, etc. would be in that category.

For example, where I work we have engineers and technicians. The technicians get overtime, and the engineers don't. Their jobs are classified differently, and they don't feel they are being "abused". Most of the technicians aspire to become engineers, and they know exactly how the overtime works. To them, it's worth it for the chance to make 2-3 times their current salary.

some weeks i work 60 hours some i dont, i get paid salary and i dont mind at all, its about getting the job done, i dont have to punch in or out, I come into the office at 11 or 12 eleave around 7 and do a little work from home, it fits my needs perfectly and i get paid well for doing my job, i would never want to work by the hour, thats a job not career.

We all need to look out for our own best interests and not be so enamored with the comfort of our present positions. There is a big world out there that is seeking qualified employees.

kranky is right on the money (i'm soo punny!)

i make 3 times what most people do who work hourly in a year, my job is more stable, and i have the chance to move ahead.

I win. Sort of.

I was hired to work fifty hours a week and for those fifty hours I get salary. Anything over that and I get paid what my salary averagaes out to for an hourly rate. i don't make time and a half but i do get paid a good wage for every hour i work. The trade off is being treated like sh!t... ah well I'll start looking for government jobs and see what they can give me...😉

i don't see how "supervisory" has anything to do with it
i don't supervise anybody in any shape or fashion and i'm salary, our whole IT dept is salary, including desktop support people , they don't have anything remotely like managerial duties

that is a joke or something
