I was wanting a salad and went to make it and had everything but the lettuce, so I went ahead and put in some pepporoni, bacon bits, croutons and cheese, and topped with ranch..and it was damn good. has anyone tried this before?

That's not a salad. That's a meat, cheese and stale bread bowl.

What about a Fruit Salad? Or Egg salad? (I guess some egg salads have veggies but you don't have to put 'em in.)

I had a Greek salad at Opa! in West Edmonton Mall... it was a damn good Greek salad and it had no lettuce.

when I went to Morton's steak house a couple months back one of the "salad" choices was a tomato the size of your fist, sliced thick, covered in bleu cheese. it was awesome (and like $15 iirc)

Yeah, I've had one of those, but I definitely wouldn't have paid $15 for that. Actually, I got it for free since I work at a banquet place. It was decent.

Y HALLO THAR!

I just had to pop in here since i rarely see my hometown mentioned :p

And on topic, IMHO, lettuce is in no way needed to have salad.

Ever hear someone cal Lettuce "salad"? I did, almost drove me mad.

There are many Salads without Lettuce, but Lettuce is always good in Salad(except Potato, Macaroni/pasta. etc). I've eaten Croutons as a snack before, kinda like eating potato chips, was tasty.

I do this at home. Cheaper and probably tastes exactly the same. You can only get good tomatoes in the late summer, though.

isn't that what they call Cobb Salad?

Not that I'd eat one if it had pepporoni, bacon, but that's just me.
