Ok so we make salad frequently and our salad spinner gets frequent use. Its one of those OXO brand models with a plunger that when you press it down, it spins the rotating drum inside so the lettuce dries.

Never thought I would use it so frequently but its much better to make salads with dry lettuce than wet. Through overuse, the thread on the plunger that engages the spinning drum have been stripped and pressing the plunger no longer spins the drum.

Anyone has a recommendation? I'd prefer a spinner with a crank if possible as I see them having less of a chance of breaking/wearing out.

The OXO one I had for 5 years now is still running strong and I use it almost every day.

Are you a bit too enthusiastic with your salad spinning?

I second OXO...pretty solid construction. We've had ours since 2006, but probably only use it a few times a month.

I use the kind that have the little nob on the top you use to manually spin the inside basket. It just seems like it's more stable.

I think it's pretty common to rinse your lettuce. I do, though I sometimes wonder if it's effective.

The wife got one from Bed Bath and Beyond....green. Not sure of brand but works pretty well. I try not to go into the kitchen except for drinks :)
