I decided to give this a shot to get me even more pumped for GTA4 and I was really impressed. I like pretty much everything about this game except the fact that it started seriously glitching.

i rented 2 different disks and with both, I'd be driving and the textures wouldn't load quick enough, my car would disapear and I'd be floating. Sometimes the textures load and catch up but most of the time they don't.

Anyone else experience this while playing it? Wondering if it is my 360's optical drive or a known issue with the game.

I really wanted to finish this but I couldn't stand the glitching any more.

I've been looking for this game in FS/FT and on Ebay/GameTZ. Ideally around $10-12 shipped. I need to get my GTA IV fix before it comes out.

How easy is the game and how long does it take to beat?

Well I didn't beat it because it kept glitching. Some of the activities you have to do to gain rep for missions are challenging. I think the dificulty level is about right. I wish I could keep playing it.

I played it when it first came out so it's hard for me to remember a lot of the details, but I thought it was a very fun game. Not quite as good at the GTA series but a good filler between San Andreas and GTAIV.

Definitely a GTA-clone worth checking out. This was one of the first games I rented when I first had my 360. It is lacking in some places but overall was fun to play.

I don't recall experiencing any issues.

It's hard to remember since it was so long ago, but I'm thinking it took me ~25 hours to finish the story + as many rep missions as I needed to do to be able to finish the story. The rep missions are fun, and they're challenging at the higher levels, but there are so many available to you that you never really have to do the higher level ones or the types you don't enjoy (I didn't care much for the insurance fraud missions). There was one story mission that took me a long time to finish; you had to drive from one side of the city to the other, then get past a bunch of guys with rocket launchers and shoot down a plane before it took off (2 shots from a rocket launcher). You had someone else driving you, which I think increased the difficulty. It was frustrating to attempt it over and over again, because the long driving section at the beginning was boring.

Hmm, no I don't remember having any serious issues.

The only issue I recall is the multiplayer modes taking forever to load, because it would never find enough people to play with (probably because no one was playing :(). It would load a bunch and then all of a sudden they would all drop out.

The multiplayer modes were fun though, from the little I played them. I enjoyed running and gunning with a character wearing nothing but boxer shorts. :)

I still play this with my friend online all the time I do enjoy it more than GTA and stuff like that. For some reason it was glitching because my friend said I was running around with a shotgun and no one could kill me when I was holding a pistol the whole time. Guess it is pretty buggy. Only part I really hate is how unbalanced the wepons are, if you have a rocket launcher and camp the area it spawns at you pretty much are in control of the entire map.

I got a good laugh out of some of the multiplayer also. Kill someone then steal their gold chains, or protect tha pimp.

It definitely glitched for me. I enjoyed the game a lot, but SR and Marvel: UA are the only two games to make my 360 freeze so far and both just happen to be known for less-than-stellar programming.

I specifically remember your description of rather extreme texture issues while driving (particularly on the highway). It never really bothered me to the point that it inhibited gameplay, but it was obvious. More bothersome were the lousy driving & driving while shooting controls. It's been about eight months since I played it, but I remember needing to constantly switch back and forth whenever there was a mission that required me to shoot as opposed to just drive.

But I'm a sandbox game junkie, even with those issues I still liked it quite a bit. I'm looking forward to the sequel.

Side note - have you played Just Cause? It is certainly far from perfect; it's overly repetitive, and the huge environment seems like a good idea until you realize that there is nothing to do in those wide open spaces and they just make you take forever getting from place to place. Still, it's a very fun game. Just Cause 2 is supposed to be coming out this year I think.

I think Saints Row, Crackdown and Just Cause have all done their part in advancing the genre, and it'll be interesting to see what GTA IV borrows from thos games and what advances it has of its own.

I purchased Saints Row for the same reason as the OP. It was only 15$ used so it was all good.

I haven't played much into it, but so far it is turning out to be quite good.

Yes, I've experienced the textures not loading while driving on the highway. Like CK said, it didn't really bother me for the same reason.

Just Cause might be sitting in my mailbox RIGHT NOW. I bought it new from Amazon.com on Thursday for $15. It's coming either today or tomorrow. :)

I have not played SR in a long time but I dont recall the textures disappearing. I have, however, noticed texture disappearances in Sk8te. And a lot of the time the textures just wont load. Pisses me off because I am usually doing something for a long time and all progress is lost when I reset. I think my optical drive is gonna go because I get disc errors occasionally even on brand new discs.

Definitely worth $15.

A word of advice - if you get frustrated trying to take over a city (because they have tanks and attack helicopters and you don't), just move on to other provinces and come back once you have an attack helicopter of your own. There are some military bases that you can take over relatively early that have attack choppers, and once you hit a certain rank with the rebels you'll also get a chopper at safehouses that have a helipad. It's a whole different game once you get choppers.

I'm really torn on JC so far. Most of the gameplay is fun and it definitely has enough potential that I'm looking forward to Just Cause 2. This will probably sound more negative than I intend, but I'm a terrible person so I'll focus on the negative:

Some parts of the island are just annoying to traverse. It's like they took the worst parts of Mass Effect (the nondescript mountainous planets) and spread them out across a huge area that are just as difficult to climb/drive around.

I've had helicopters since very early on and they make it a bit easier, but I sure wish they were at every safehouse instead of just a select few. I've found myself pushing towards mission 16 (supposedly when you get the gyrocopter drop) just to make the liberation/collection/side missions more bearable.

Earlier in this thread I mentioned that Saints Row and Marvel: UA were the only two games to make my 360 freeze. So far in 9 hours of play, JC has managed to do it twice. With that in mind, at the very least I'd like the option to save immediately following the liberation/side missions so I don't lose my progress. If I extract to a safehouse then I lose my helicopter unless I go to certain locations.

I really enjoyed this game, even with the glitching. I only experienced the disappearing car when using a fast car on the highway. My friend dealt with it more. I definitely liked all the random things the pedestrians said when playing. I can't wait until Saints Row 2.

I experienced the same bugginess with Saints Row as the OP. I did modify my 360 case for a more effecient cooling system, and have since noticed far few glitches in games in general. Since I've done this I have yet to have any glitches in the Saints Row game. However, I'm not claiming this will work for you, it could be shear coincidence that I have yet to encounter any bugs in SR since modding my 360.
