GTA 4 was MEANT TO BE SERIOUS. It is now what, a 3 year old game? SR3 looks better - no shit. It's 3 years later, and they've had time to improve. Two was great, way different from GTA IV, and it worked. GTA IV was great - great story, great gameplay, great characters, everything.
Saints Row 3 looks awesome. The gameplay looks fun, off the wall, and over the top, as it should be. I guarantee you the story is sub-par though, and probably the characters are flat, BUT THAT ISN'T what I play it for.

I loved GTA4. It wasn't really a GTA game in the traditional sense, but if they didn't stick that title in there it might not have sold. The cell phone, buddy system stuff was stupid but it didn't matter to me.
I actually got bored with SR2 pretty early because the driving felt so off. I can't remember exactly what it was, but it was incredibly frustrating. It made me feel like my controller was broken, even though changing it didn't do anything. Hopefully I don't feel the same way about this one, as I'm always down for a good sandbox game.

Personally I found GTA4 to be not only boring and tedious, but that cell phone crap really annoyed the hell out of me. The damn thing was ringing all the time and I was always worried that ignoring calls would have repercussions (e.g. miss out on something) down the the road. Eventually I just quit playing, the game simply wasn't fun to play. I had more fun launching cars off the playground swing sets than actually playing through the story.
All that said, I never finished SR2 either. I found it to be more fun to play and did play it longer, but eventually the sheer stupidity got to me. IMO, RDR was much better than either. Now I'm playing inFamous 2 and it's better than any of them.

Why does every single thread about GTA or Saints Row have to turn into a GTA4 bash? We get it, some people don't like it, you're complaints are getting really really old and tiring. It's the same in pc gaming, you can't mention Skyrim without 4 pages of "Oblivion sucked ass and the leveling system blows"

RDR was indeed better. Infamous 2 maybe better still for me but it's hard to say... I'm ~2/3 through it.
So far I've had the most fun with Just Cause 2 in a sandbox game. It was glorious fun despite the laughably bad voice acting and silly story. The gameplay itself was just so great that I spent several hours after completing the game just dicking around. Then I got it on the PC, and after some mods it's like an even more absurd and fantastic game.

I picked two up this afternoon, after reading your post. It is by far some of the worst graphics since Perfect Dark. I know games are more than graphics but these are unbearably bad. Like, first gen xbox bad.
if i liked all the GTA games and most sandbox games, will i like saints row 2? this looks awesome.

Did the driving (specifically accelerating) feel weird to you? I remember having a hard time with it because it felt like the cars wouldn't shift sometimes and get stuck at a max speed.

Yeah, but it wasnt as much fun as previous versions because the game too itself too seriously.
