Saint's Row 2

I loved GTAIV, but SR2 looks to offer up most of the crazy-fun stuff I missed in Rockstar's latest entry to the GTA series.

If you've been skeptical of the game (understandable--while enjoyable, I'm not the biggest fan of the first one) you must watch these gameplay videos. It's starts at the very beginning of the game minus the tutorial and with certain parts sped up (customization).

I must say--the cutscenes are half bad either (X360)...

Hopefully there is more replay value to this game than the first one.

I didn't watch much of these videos, but the car explosions don't seem as good as the ones in #1.

I remember a video that was on youtube a little while ago showing a few things that you could do, and it seemed that there was a lot of little things that seemed cool at first but would get old real quick.

I have high hopes, but not so high expectations.

I didnt pay too much attention to the explosions to be honest. But, you say you didnt watch much of the video--how far in to it did you get? Try hitting about 1/2 into it when they're escaping the prison and jacking one of the trucks. I just thought it looked like fun. 🙂

Video 1 - Physics of your car being hit doesn't match the weight. You get slam by another car and you just keep going as if nothing happened, except for a few scratches. Killing in the underground hotel's very repetitive. The guiding markers give the game a rather dumb down feel.

Video 2, what's w/ the loading? holy shit the face models are terrible. That woman looks like she has no teeth. Just like the 1st video, your character is like superman, many gun shots, few damage...

Video 3 = Video 1, it's the same video!

Yeah, I don't think so. GTA4's production value, details, and story line's just feels better.

SR isnt about simulating collisions accurately or going for realism like GTAIV did--it's more of an arcade feel wrapped in its own rediculousness--basically it's more of a video game that isnt taking itself too seriously. You didnt get that from watching the videos?

Also, might want to check that third video again. 😉

GTA was epic starting with the third one, in the sense that it was the first game to successfully create a really good Sandbox style.

Saint's Row was epic in the sense that it added all the features you wish were in GTA, for instance flying out of the front windshield when hitting something hard.

Then GTA added those features in, and many people believe that those features are something that originates in GTA, but in fact, Saint's Row came out with it first. In my opinion Saint's row is more fun than GTA because it's more ridiculous, swearing everywhere, fast paced action, better guns and more cartoony explosions while still keeping it a little bit realistic. GTA is great but after a while it's a little boring without some fast paced action.

I've been playing Saint's Row 2 PAL region free version on my NTSC xbox here for a few days now.. I'd have to say it's very similar to the first one and includes a few extra features like throwing large objects like street signs and I believe there is now satchel charges.

The one thing that makes saint's row and 2 so fun is the small mini games that you complete such as property damage and insurance fraud, those are Extremely fun.

This is exactly what i mentioned in my above post, people compare it too much to GTA when it's supposed to be more of a ridiculous game that's still fun like GTA.

At least someone else sees that and not just me.

How can you not compare it to GTA? The two are extremely similar. And up until GTAIV, the GTA series was always about being ridiculous and over the top, however serious they tried to make the storyline.

With that said, Saints Row 2 should appeal to most of the people that were disappointed by GTAIV's reduced gameplay scope and increased realism/seriousness.

It's comparable in the sense that you're both gangster like people in a sandbox game but other than that the two different types of gameplays are pretty different in my opinion

I'm saying that most people expect that Saint's row 2 is going to outdo GTA in the realism department, which is not the mission of Saint's row 2.

To be honest, I had more fun messing around in SR than I did GTA4. Yeah obviously the production, acting, and story are better in GTA4 but for some reason, overall I had more fun with SR.

I think I will get SR2, Fable2, and Fallout3 with the upcoming Toysrus buy 2 get 1 free deal.

If true, that sounds like a great idea.

where is this deal?

Cheap Ass Gamer link

According to that link it runs the 12th through the 18th. Saints Row is the 14th, but Fable and Fallout come out after that deal is over.

Great idea otherwise.

You can do it. Just gotta buy games that cost the same price, make sure the game u want to keep is the 3rd one rung up and return the other 2 games. All the rules are in that link. I did it before and it worked fine last time but I guess it isn't guaranteed. I'm not sure how they could deny the return though if its not opened.

After posting that I did keep reading that guy's replacement strategy, I could see how that would work. I may try this.
