Saints Row 2 Problems

So Saints Row 2 showed up at my house yesterday, and I was eager to start playing. I spent nearly a half an hour on creating the goofiest looking mofo ever. I got to the face paint section and wanted to check out what I'd look like as a mime. Then, the game froze up. Not happy...

I ate dinner and tried again later. This time, I made it all the way to "Start Game" and when I pressed A or B or whatever to continue - it locked up again. Son of a.....

I looked online and found that others were having random problems too. I took someone's advice and cleared my 360's memory cache while on the dashboard. I did a quick character creation, complete with the Happy Days compliment and Smooth Criminal taunt. I started the game and I was in business. (I kept hitting No to the update at this point.)

I broke Gat out of court/jail and brought him to the house. I was then on my trip back to my crib so I could check it out. On the way back I stopped at Sloppy Seconds and while changing clothes it froze up AGAIN. I checked for for an Autosave and there was one - tried to load it and, of course, it sat on the loading screen for 10 minutes.

I created a character yet another time and got through it, got to the crib, and started on the first mission. I did a manual save just in case this time. I killed the gang members and it was time to destroy the shanty things. As soon as I started attacking the first shack - fucking freezes AGAIN. WTF!!!LKJla;kjsdga;lskdjfasl;kdfjas;ldkfj

Anyone know of anything else I can try? My Xbox RRoD'd and was fixed and returned a few months ago, so I'm hoping it's still fine. It is a launch day console - so hopefully it's not the drive that's bad...that would really suck.

Cliffs:
Saints Row 2 freezes twice during character creation
Cleared memory cache on 360 and ignore xbox live updates
Start over and get into game this time and it freezes
Start over again, get into game again and freezes on second mission
Will not load auto (or manual) saves - even WITH the xbox live update at this point
Me turning emo sad :(

EDIT: Yes I bought the game used. But the disc is in mint condition. Believe me, I looked.

I had the same problem on one of my 360s (have 3 of em) it was the one that had disc read errors on occasion, but I never got a disc read error with SR2, it would just freeze all the time. On my other 2 360s I have not gotten a freeze up at all. I think its a combo of what dvd drive is in the 360 and the buggy game itself. I cant narrow it down anymore than the flaky 360 drive and the buggy game.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll try it on another 360 to see if that makes a difference. I've never had any read errors before with my current box, so I'm hoping it isn't dying.

Had the same problems a couple years ago on crackdown.. I swore it was the game, but I tried it on 2 other systems and it worked fine. Shortly after, the freezing started to spread to other games.. It ended up being a dying 360 :(

Hopefully this isnt the case with you.

Sounds like a hardware issue to me.
Both times my boxes have died, the freezing got more and more frequent. I sluffed it off as being the game's fault, but sure enough the XBox ended up dying.
Now my Elite freezes the odd time only when the wife plays Viva Pinata, and that's enough for me to start saving for a new elite. Probably by the new year I would guess. Frickin things are time bombs, but fantastic when they work.

It could be the game. I have PS3 and I've never had any problems with any of the games or blu-rays I've thrown at it, but I had it lock up on me 3 times during my 30+ hour playthrough of Saint's Row 2.

Mine has froze a few times, but nothing to really bother me that much because it usually happens after 3 or 4 hours of gaming.

Well I tried it on my brother's Xbox and had the same results. I used my hard drive and it failed to load the auto saves. I figured it could be a bad save due to a possibly dying drive on my box. I created a new guy and it froze before I even made it to the boat to escape from prison. A cop car hit my car and sent me sailing into the water. As soon as the car touched the water it froze again.

I'm going to try swapping out discs and hopefully that fixes it. My fingers are still crossed that my box is fine since none of my other 15-20 games have ever done this.
