I say get it for a good sale price. Then be prepared to do some tweaks. If not then this is not the game for you and you should move on but you'll be missing out and it's really easy to do.

These tweaks are needed to make the game functional and just plain awesome. :D

You'll need to get Gentlemen of the Row: http://idolninja.com/sr2.php & Saints Row Powertools (Unless your CPU is 3.2GHZ or you're running Windows 8 then skip this.) (fixes FPS issues due to CPU speed: http://saintsrowpowertools.com/ ).

If you need to install Power Tools (not running Windows 8 and CPU is higher or lower than 3.2GHZ). From the Read Me file(I'll add some little notes.):

0. Copy Install.cmd, Powertools.dll, and Powertools.ini to your
Saints Row 2\ game folder (e.g. \steamapps\common\saints row 2) (If you did the above you know how to do this now. You're just unzipping/extracting these files like you did with Gentlemen of the Row.)

1. Execute Install.cmd via elevated command prompt (Double click on it.)

2. Open Powertools.ini and tweak as necessary. (Double click on it find [Speed] and under Percentage= 1.0 change that number to something between 0.6 to 0.9 then click on File and Save.)

3. Load the game and enjoy.

Or try the Beta version which should automatically adjust the speed properly (Beta means it could have bugs and not work properly.): http://saintsrowpowertools.com/oldbeta/beta.html

Just read the site and the programs Read Me files and enjoy. :D Take a look at this FAQ: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1715922

1. Just unzip the folder in the Saints Row 2 folder. Usually: "Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Saints Row 2\"

2. Open the folder "Gentlemen_of_the_Row_Saints_Row_2_Super_Mod_v1.9.1" All the mod options will be in Create_Custom_GotR_v1.9.1.exe lots of options to choose.

3. After you run it just copy the files in MY_CUSTOM_PATCH to the main Saints Row 2 folder and overwrite any files it asks.

You can make a Backup of those files if you want to play it vanilla but with this game I wouldn't worry about it.

If you --wanna play co-op-- You can use GameSpy (It's two companies and only the PC news site was shutdown) or get a program like Hamachi to play LAN games online. There is other programs like Hamachi but it's the most popular. You can do a simple search for "play lan games online" or type in Hamachi at http://www.alternativeto.net and see a list of similar programs.

It also just helps for games that need ports opened and for those buddies who aren't very tech savvy. Handy to have.

From Idol Ninja's FAQ(linked above): "Why does it timeout when I try to connect to a coop game?

Saints Row 2 needs to have the following port open/forwarded for both the host and client:
4200 TCP and UDP

Just opening port 4200 works for most people. If it still time's out try disabling your Hamachi virtual network adapter and/or opening the following ports both TCP and UDP:
* 27900 (Master Server UDP Heartbeat)
* 28900 (Master Server List Request)
* 29900 (GP Connection Manager)
* 29901 (GP Search Manager)
* 13139 (Custom UDP Pings)
* 6500 (Query Port)
* 4200 (Game)

If it still doesn't work, try hosting a non-password protected game. Oddly enough, this seems to work for some people when everything else fails."

Revamped Car Physics: http://www.saintsrowmods.com/forum/threads/revamped-car-physics-for-sr2.2780/

Make rampaging in cars just a blast. :D

Just throw the files in: "Gentlemen_of_the_Row_Saints_Row_2_Super_Mod_v1.9.1\optional_mod_stuff\1-MODDERS_-_PUT_YOUR_OWN_PERSONAL_MODS_HERE"

and run Create_Custom_GotR_v1.9.1.exe like explained above.

SR2 & 3 are awesome. Just SR2 was a rushed PC port but luckily the modding community came to the rescue and with some nice enhancements for the game too. ;)

CO-OP is really fun as SR2 is more open ended and a little less linear.

For those that also own Saints Row 3. Both those sites have a section for SR3.

A real SDK by the games creators is being released soon for SR2, 3 & 4. Which means SR2 will be getting deeper enhancements than it already has! So SR2 is far from dead.

Game on! :)

Just letting everyone know since the Summer sale is going on.

I actually like SR2 more than SR3... I didn't experience any issues with SR2 on my PC.

Just found out that GameSpy is actually two different companies. A PC News site (which got shutdown) and for Multiplayer games (not going anywhere)

This is exactly what I did. SR3 > SR2.

I dig em both. I don't care to compare them as they are both fun but both do have +'s and -'s.

SR2 is less linear than SR3 but again both are still fun.
