Hi all, likely not of interest to most gamers, but just throwing it out there.
Saga of Lucimia is a group based MMO inspired by games of old (Everquest, Vanguard, PnP D&D - technically Ultima but only in so much as being skill based instead of levels). It goes into Alpha in October (proper Alpha for testing purposes as opposed to a full game to play). The game is due to release end 2017.

Their preorder store opened yesterday for those interested enough to take a risk on an Indie game and tired of the way modern MMOs are.
I believe $40 gets you the game and access to all the test phases, additionally if 250 copies are sold in the first few weeks, those who bought will have their names immortalised in the game word on a monument (which will be related to the lore - so the monument would be for those who originally founded the city, or those involved in a great battle etc.)

For those looking for more info, a lot can be found at:
www.sagaoflucimia.com
In addition, www.youtube.com/user/SagaOfLucimia/videos has lots of regularly updated content including weekly shows about how the skill system works and also updated from the Producer every Tuesday - which includes I think episode 9 which gives 5 reasons why you should NOT preorder their game as well as 5 reasons why you should.
Ultimately, if you do not fall in love with what you see, then the smart thing to do is not preorder and either wait until they have more to show, or even wait until it is released. But since the store just opened I figured it was a good milestone for bringing it to people's attention.

A brief summary of key points:
Group based game - NO adventuring content for soloers (though clever designe builds may find a way for overland fighting).
No PvP.
Caravan system for keeping a group together (so if some of your regular group mates are not on you can continue and when next on they can log in and be with you).
No actual levels, skill based system.
Crowd Control is a big deal.
Old fashioned dungeon crawls (spending weeks or even months in a dungeon, ala EQ1 days)
Sub based game.

The game is designed for the old school gamers who have been left out in the cold for the last decade, the Team know that we are not a huge population but are still around, so they know it will be a niche game (as in, aiming for 1000s of players rather than 100,000s or millions) so they are not trying to overreach or change their vision simply because it is not going to be mainstream.

Anyway, that's all. Since there was a post about fond memories of Everquest 1, I figured there may be some here that may be intrigued

It is like EQ1 in the way that dungeons are not instanced, so you will share the area with others and they will be especially large to accomodate multiple groups camping within the big dungeons. So, if you can survive the journey, you could go into a dungeon and try LFG in theory (though given some mobs are happy to hunt you rather than wait for you to go aggro them, it may be wise to be part of a group before going far).

I believe there will be 30 overland zones to travel through and 10 big dungeons planned for release

Looks pretty and something I may be interested in at some point. However being realistic there is a 90% chance it won't work or attract subscribers or end up being something different. I have been snookered too many times on MMO games $40 entry is steeep at this point.

A perfectly fair and wise stance to have and I think even one of the reasons the Producer gave as a reason not to preorder in his vid - as in, if you doubt the game will make it, don't risk it (as opposed to 'there is a 90% chance we will fail') :)
I just wanted to bring it to people's attention as they seem to be moving forward nicely, so even if not wanting to pit money down, people may like to keep an eye on it, join their forums and ask questions etc.

I love that it's First person, (planned VR support hopefully), and they just announced MAC and Linux clients.

I may break my oath to myself and pre-order.

Good point I was a bit bitchy earlier. I stand by my 90% assumption. I'll put this on my watch list.

And at this early stage I would say 80-90% is probably a safe assumption. Hopefully that number will decrease as time goes on :)

I haven't actually pre ordered myself, but likely will - I have had to accept that AAA MMOs will not bother making games to my tastes (understandable as they are big businesses wanting big money so need to target the masses) so Indie games are my only hope, so I just need to go on blind faith at times - after all, if I don't support them then I can only blame myself for there not being any decent MMOs for me to play :)
Even if the game does release, there could well be features I don't like to the point I end up not playing, but even then I won't regret the preorder.

Here is my failed mmo list. Admittedly most are trial periods or beta weekends. I stopped spending money on mmos because of their high failure rate. List has no particular order:
Shadowbane- a mess
Dark fall- another mess
Wild Star- had potential but easy mode game
Age of Conan- no death penalty small world
Star wars TOR- easy mode game
Star Trek- easy mode soulless game
Warhammer- easy mode soulless game
Mortal Online- mess
EQ2- easy mode, no players
UO2- cancelled/never released
Final Fantasy 15(?)- complete mess of a game
Two Korean grinders that I can't remember their names. Soulless formula games

I'll include Anarchy Online, crashing mess at first ultimately became ok to play but I'm not dealing with crap like that again.

Again this game is talking good I'm all for checking in from time to time and I have thought why every developer looks to have millions of subscribers like WOW when a couple hundred thousand paying around $60 per year should really be enough.

I feel your pain. EQ1 and Vanguard aside (I know Vanguard was a failure but was still one of the most enjoyable experiences for me) the games I try have all failed to keep my interest. The primary reason is because they all chase the big bucks, try be accessible for all (which translates to easy solo to max with a few group activities thrown in).
One of the things that this game intrigued me most with was the Our World, Our Way blog and the fact they are aiming small. 5k players is enough, 10k would be great. There is no compromise in their mind when it comes to their vision of the game, for better or worse.

I'm super sketchy of any Korean made MMO after the P2W disaster that was Archeage. Koreans just have way too much tolerance for P2W and insanely monotonous grinds.

Yeah, have to admit, the minute I saw it would be F2P I almost lost all interest, after researching more about it I confirmed it definitely was not for me.

Not really one for 'bumping' my own thread, but in case any are interested, after the first stress test on Saturday a friend and I streamed a bit before the world came down. Apologies for the amateur hour commentary, but it was a spur of the moment thing so we didn't have anything planned for it.
