Ya know... people develop tastes and get used to them. Its hard to change someones tastes. Most people respect that and when guests come over they try to make food similar to the way the person normally eats it.

Except ATOT... where once you express something you enjoy everyone chimes in how their tastes are better!

Is Saffron the brand? I doubt there are actual flower stamens in there... :hmm:

bought both Vigo and Op's brand to taste test.
vigo is cheaper per oz.

holy 10oz rice fills alot of bowls!

so far not impressed w/vigo. will update when i cook Op's brand

What. MSG has its own distinct flavor. It's salty, bit chemically, with a lasting aftertaste.

Doesn't actually impart any flavor of its own? You should try tasting a pinch of MSG alone.

MSG "tastes like [take out] Chinese food." 😀

no, seriously. Went on this field trip in high school with my Japanese class (local amino acids plant....for whatever reason, we went there because it is a Japanese company).

they passed around a bottle of MSG crystal. yeah, looks like salt. I pinched a wee bit and tasted it. My first thought--wtf? tastes like Chinese food! (all of the americanized take-out Chinese dishes that I had then been long accustomed to.)

Mahatma is the brand.

I'm not sure if I tried the one from OP. I do like cheap saffron rice though. I mostly like Vigos...but Vigos needs help.

Mahatma white rice tends to be the cheapest around here. I used to get it frequently, but I got annoyed with it b/c every time I cook it, this foamy shit just boils over the top of the pan and bubbles out from under the lid. I have no idea what that is....I also suck at rice, somehow. :\

Not quite correct. There is almost zero saffron in the OP's saffron rice but there is some, just ahead of the anti-caking agent. I posted the ingredients above.

That's my favorite flavor. 😀

I wouldn't be surprised if there were a disclaimer on the bag saying, "'Saffron' refers to the color of the rice".

ok.. had both vigo and op's brand.
op's brand is the winner hands down. MUCH more flavor.

now where can i get it cheaper than $0.15/oz?

The ingredient listed as saffron is almost certain to contain less than %5 saffron itself, probably zero.

Now I am going to go pick up a Kobe beef tenderloin...
