SAFEST WAY TO FLASH BIOS 8RDA+

What is the safest way to flash the bios on this mobo? Is there a link that shows the PRECISE step by step procedure. Just being a bit cautious. Thanks!

EPoX website should have a step by step on how to flash the BIOS. I tried their site to give a direct link but it isn't up on my end....

The way i've always done it is via floppy drive.
I download and unzip the new bios to a floppy, restart the computer & when it reaches POST, press Alt+F2 to initialize the Bios Flash program.
It then reads the new bios from the floppy and flashes it on its own. You don't have to type or configure anything.

Oh, set your CPU & Ram to default speeds before you flash to avoid any mishaps.
Upon reflashing succesfully, I do a full boot up into windows, shut down and restart before making any changes again to the bios.

I use the ALT+F2 method too. I don't know if it's any safer to use a bootable floppy but I've had good results with ALT+F2. ALl you need on the floppy disk for the ALT+F2 method is the .bin file for the new bios.

Last time i did it, i used the winflash.exe utility from within Windows.

I had no problems with that, hell, I even did it while O/Ced (200x10 for 2GHz) 🙂

You a BAD mutha 😉

yup...the alt-f2 method seems to work best for me. Just stick the bios on a floppy, and when it posts press alt-f2 and let it do its magic.

Sounds like the general concensus is to use the Alt F2 procedure. I take it that I download the latest bios from Epox...unzip it.....extract just the .bin file, put that on a floppy, and use that with the Alt F2 trick. That about right?

Now should I do this before or after I install Windows XP? I was thinking that it might be better to do this once I have windows installed and everything is functioning. Any opinions?

That's right.

It's funny but after I flashed to the 3/5 bios now every time I change the bios settings and click save and exit, it briefly flashes the red message that says the "don't power down" warning like you get when you flash the bios. Anyone else see this?

Same here with the message.

and..
I used the alt-F2 method and the flash went fine.

I take it the Alt-F2 method only works with a floppy drive, not a CD drive? I got rid of my floppy drives a system ago because I could use my USB pen drives as bootable devices...but on the NF2 boards, I don't have the option to boot from a USB device. 🙁 So it's back to burning CDs for BIOS updates...
