I agree.

No sauces. Pasta is a big maybe. You don't want tomato sauce on your shirt.

I think it has to do with making assumptions about something before actually doing it.
Good luck, order whatever they are having.
Several companies do that.

If I'm ever served steamed veggies I'm screwed. :(
The whole point is you don't taste the food beforehand. Therefore, you are unable to accurately assess a situation.

pasta is fine except for spaghetti. salad is fine too, I don't think it's particularly cliche. what kind of job?

I do think it would be pretty cool to do a lunch interview for a job that you didn't care about, get ribs, corn on the cob, a pitcher of beer and talk with your mouth full the whole time.

I'd rather not say yet, but I'll be sure to share the details if all goes well. :)

I like salads, but I don't want to be the "girl who doesn't eat anything and picks at her salad".

Instead, you will be the "girl who asks people on a message board what to eat at an interview, picks something that she would not normally eat but since her groupies chose this for her, she went ahead and ordered it, was then hired for this job off a false assumption that since she ordered dish A, she would be good for the job, but now sucks horribly at the job because she would normally order dish B."

Does it really fvckin matter what you order? No! Use common sense. People won't look into what you are ordering. Salad is too cliche? That ..nevermind..its just funny.

You know not of what you speak when you say "People won't look into what you are ordering."

Hiring people has got be one of the hardest things you do as a manager, you live with and regret those mistakes for a long time. You look at everything.

Yeah I get that. But come on man... Adding salt/pepper to what should be unseasoned veggies is so far away from adding salt to a perfect rare/medium rare steak.

And you actually you can discern a difference between a person who orders a salad and a person who orders a chicken alfredo pasta? Please.

Jesus christ, people.

Y'all should just lighten the hell up and order what you want.

They're ribs. They are supposed to be messy.

People spill. It happens.

Just relax and enjoy the free lunch.:)

Good manners dictate ordering something average, such as an iced tea and light entré (along the lines of chicken caesar salad, baked potato and chicken...)

Something easy to eat, not awkward, and nothing that screams, "Oh she's only ordering this dish because she's getting a free lunch." Read: Filet Mignon? No.

I wouldn't order anything that has the remote possibility of being messy...but that's just me. Hell, I usually try to avoid eating sandwiches when I go out so I don't have to pick them up and use my hands...but that's just me.

Wait, I am interviewing an asian woman for a position over lunch tomorrow.

Her chances look mighty slim from what I see here.

By safe, you don't mean foods that won't make you flatulate, do you? I'll go along with the other poster; if you can't decide for yourself what food might or might not be safe to eat, then I'm sure you're interviewer should pick up on your lack of confidence. Unless, of course, this is more than 'an interview' to him/her... I'd order a Sam Adams cuz those commercials show that people who drink Sam Adams are better than other people. ;)

i have had these types of interviews before..the way i handle it is ill say
"i have never been to this restaurant before...what do you recommend"

...and go from there, after all odds are they are taking you there because they have been there before, or eat there often. After lunch if you want to butter them up express how good the meal you just had was.

Hell, just be yourself and just stop worrying. Don't try to second geusss things and make an effort to do what you think the interviewer "wants" you to do.

I had a big interview with Ford once and it started as a group thing at a dinner table in the Ritz Carlton. They went around the table asking for drink orders and EVERYONE of those pansies ordered water/tea/milk. I was laughing my ass off inside and when they got to me I ordered a beer. About 15 min into the thing a guy showed up from a late flight and sat next to me.....looked around the table, looked at me and ordered a beer. After smooshing with the interviewers for about an hour and a half, drinking a few more beers, and finishing dinner we were instucted to go get a good night's sleep to be ready for the testing phase of the interview to begin early in the morning. The late guy and me said hell with that, got in the Ritz's limo and went to a strip club and proceded to drink till 2 AM.................

..............guess what? I was offered the job so I don't think you have to worry too much about what you order young lady.

Just order whatever you want to eat. If you don't get a job because the interviewer doesn't like what you ordered, than you don't want to be working for them anyways.

Besides, who cares if food gets stuck in your teeth... that happens, you're only human. Nit picking and worrying about little insignificant details will only make you more nervous and more uncomfortable.

Just order whatever you would as if you were paying and enjoy your interview.

Crab Cakes if they have them. Hands down the best choice in these types of situations.

Only if you're in Maryland. Other places have too much bread and filler. A good crab cake is made with only lump and backfin crab meat (not shredded) and very little filler.
