SAFELY TWEAKING the Radeon LE 32mb ddr to perform like the Radeon 32mb ddr. STEPS NEEDED! :)

Well guys after I posted a bunch of times last night, read some articles, and researched I found out that the best budget card currently available is the ATI RADEON LE 32 MB DDR. This card at stock speed is still great and looks awesome for only $70 U.S. I also know that you can tweak the LE to perform almost the exact same as the RADEON 32MB DDR. As far as I underastand it is the same chipset as the DDR 32MB board but it has HYPER-Z disbaled in D3D and the core/memory speeds have been turned down to
148mhz. Over at anandtech.com tweaking the card seemed to very easy, and not that risky. If someone could post the steps to SAFELY tweak the card to perform like the 32MB DDR RADEON (183mhz) or close to it (166mhz) I would really appreciate it.
Lastly I have a few simple questions:
1) This is relatively safe to do right?
2) Can overclocking your video card have any other harmful effect on other system components like cpu or whatever?
3) Is the cooling provided with the oem card good enough?

1) Totally safe.
2) No.
3) Some people get the card up to 190/190 with stock cooling. But anything past 170/170 gives diminishing returns. I run at 166/166 personally.

Well that makes me feel safer. So there is no way the overclocking of the card can harm other system components? Lastly, I was thinking myself of running it @ 166mhz instead of 183mhz. Did you notice a good difference between the stock 143mhz and the 166mhz o/c. O yea, most games run in OPen Glide right, if so why would u have patch the registry for hyper-z in d3d? thx

The Radeon LE scales well all the way up if you have a fast CPU.

OpenGL, not Glide. Two different things. I would say more games use direct 3d. It all depends on what games you play.

It's totally safe, the cooler that comes with it will easily hit 166/166 and almost every time 183/183. Well some games use D3d (UnrealTournament for one), and some use Open GL(QuakeIII for example), so I'd just go ahead and hack the registry just in case. And yeah, no main system componet will harmed by ocing the video card.

Install a program called radeon tweaker (which i believe you can get from rage3d.com)
Easy to use interface and it does all the work for you.

Like flight23 mentioned use RadeonTweaker. My LE went up to 183 without any problems with just the stock heatsink. There is also an option on RT to automatically add the registry keys to enable HyperZ in D3D.

alright cool thx guys. Looks like Radeon Tweaker is the way to go eh? So if I enable the option in Radeon Tweaker I won't have to edit the registry myself? have a nice day guys!
