Safely Remove Hardware?!

Ok, i'm getting the little "safely remove hardware" in the system icons tray... only its showing the Raptors as removable devices... wtf? Using winxp pro. Anyone got answers?

That depends largely on your RAID controller. Technically, SATA drives are removable - I would love to be able to remove mine that way. But - on my mobo, the ATA controller and the RAID controller are linked - and the only way I can "see" a SATA drive if it is used with a RAID driver. And, when that is the case, they are not removable and not listed with the tray icon.

Yep, some controllers are now plug-and-play, so you can remove your non-OS drives and plug in new ones without having to reboot. Pretty cool feature, if you have a reason for it.

😀

1) right-click the Start button and choose Properties, then the Taskbar tab

2) now click the Customize button, and you can set the Safely Remove Hardware to the Always Hide setting.

Not quite perfect, since you may want to see that icon if you've got a USB or Firewire drive hooked up, but that's my best shot for now 🙂

i'm pretty sure XP won't let you remove one of your main drives...if you try, it should give you a warning/error. so you shouldn't have to worry about accidentally clicking the 'remove' option...even if you do, nothing should really happen.
