For overclocking...

Max I'd put 24/7 is 1.45v, although many would prefer 1.5v - 1.55v... It's all up to how well your opty 170 overclocks in the end... For me, 2.8 GHz at 1.4v was enough for me :).

Agree with Ricemarine, 1.45v is as high as you should go using air cooling. You can try higher voltages with water cooling or phase-change.

WHOS TO SAY 1.45.....its all just an opinion.... seriously people here say 1.45 while other forums people pump 1.6v for 24.7
i think its mainly a temp thing with dual core... otherwise the original 90nm single core voltage would be ssafe in my opinion ,,,, this is all jsut my opinion
every1 is diff...
but seriously it is actually proven to shorten teh cpu lifespan on 90nm's ar about 1.7+
as to what i have seen and learned...
as well as im sure 1.5 -1.55V slowy shortens its life as well.... but not nearly s fast as 1.6 -1.65
to me 1.7V is suicidal.

10% has always been a nice safe rule of thumb....That is safe though!! one could be a tad more aggressive and still be fine in terms of longevity...

Opterons are like 1.3v/1.35v??? My opteron 270 says that...

10% rule would be 1.43-1.48v

15% which I consider more agressive like above is 1.5-1.55v...

1.6v is in 25% range and just pain ridiculous...ONce you get above like 5% overvolting it seems the amount in HTT you pick up per .025 is so small it is almost not worth the added benefit....I have in the past had to notch .025v to get 1-2 FSB....

NOw ofcourse I am talking prime24-48 hour stable and not what half the dim wits consider full load...like gaming for 2 minutes, or letting prime run like a few minutes, or running superpi 1mb.....

Safe voltage = stock.
Any increase in voltage u take a risc at killing ur cpu.
The risc is small when u do small voltage bumbs, and gets larger exponentialy, and like Duvie mentioned 10% is usually fine and it probably fits into the error % of the system like voltages and stuff anyways.

Did you run it through prime95 and see how you did?

Thats what I was thinking.
I very much doubt 2.8ghz on any stepping would run through 12 hours of prime95 with only 1.4v. If it really has, it must be one bloody lucky CPU he has there.
Unless of course it's water cooled or something.

Mines at 2.7ghz prime95 stable at 1.425v.
