Safe to remove fan from mobo heatsink?

hey guys i have a gigabyte 7DX mobo (AMD 761)

the fan on my mobo's heatsink (a very small one) has been making some weird noises upon startup...louder whine than usually and is very annoying...but it eventually goes away.

i was wondering if it would be safe to just remove this fan...or would i be in danger of frying my mobo?

my mbm 5 temps are as follows 20C 44C 25C

Can you just put a drop of light weight 3in1, sewing machine or machine oil on the bearing? If so, you can probably rejuvenate the fan for another year or two.

I have the EXACT same problem, and guess what I have a Gigabyte board too (7DXR great mobo btw)

I just ignore it as it goes away shortly after windows has booted.

Quick question, if I replace the nb fan with a Sunon 40mm and plug it into the mobo header where the stock one is plugged in, will the header be able to handle it, I can imagine the Sunon draws more power.

glad to hear someone else has this problem...for a second i thought my harddrive was dying...but i figured it was the fan since the noise would stop whenever i unplugged it 😛

i think the header should be able to handle the sunon fan...doesn't everything draw power from the psu anyways??? i thought the only reason to use the mobo headers were if you wanted to be able to monitor the fans?

I replaced the fan on my Shuttle AK31A with the Sunon from Plycon and it seems to work fine. It seems to me that chipset fans die very VERY frequently. I recently ordered parts for a system for my uncle and I decided "why wait" and bought a new fan with it. 🙂

BTW, the fan on my AK31A lasted less than 2 weeks. :Q
