Safe to drive to Ottawa from NYC this weekend?

The news is being all dramatic about certain death if you dare to drive... Are the conditions really that bad or are the main highways drivable?

Up here in Albany, NY the roads were atrocious. I would not recommend driving tonight. Wait a good 24 hours before heading out. The Thruway might be in better shape though.

The roads are horrible right now. You would be taking I-81 for most of the way, and it wasn't even plowed heading home tonight. Traffic was 15-30mph.

It will be better in a day or two.

It's never safe to go to Ottawa, drive somewhere better, like Montreal.

Been there, Did not care for the rude wannabe frenchies. 😛

Once when I drove back to Toronto from NYC I ran into thuder snowstore at the part of Pennsilvania that is hilly. It was 3pm and pitch black.

We're planning to leave sometime tomorrow. hopefully things are better then.

hope you beat the storm in. there is supposed to be another storm on sunday.

Ottawa = south. They dramatize snow to be 10x worse then what it really is. I still remember when Toronto called the army over a few inches of snow. lawls. Unless it says volcano, hurricane, tornado, very high winds, flood, or other warning that can actually be a disaster, then I would not worry about it. Though freeways may be the only dangerous place to be during a blizzard due to dumb drivers that still go the speed limit if it's unsafe. (100 in a blizzard = bad) But, does the south even get blizzards? Think it's more just heavy snow but not so much blowing snow which is the worse for visibility.

So chances are it's safe, just drive more carefully because 1: may possibly by icy, 2: other dumb drivers are probably not driving safely.

Actually I take back what I said, Just saw it on the news it's about as bad as what we'd get up here on a normal storm so I was underestimating it. I would not do highway driving in that, especially not in the south where people are not used to it. Even here when it's like this we will try to avoid the highways.

no....ofcourse...I have retardism in myself for trying with tires that a close to the end of its treadlife. Not completely my fault though....I keep making appt to get new tires and they keep telling me that they have not come in yet.....

depends on what you drive.
if you have a big dog daddy toby kieth uber-ton 4x4 go for it.
look in the mirror..see the road boss.............BE THE ROAD BOSS!

You're still here. Are you going today? When are you coming back?

The highways should be fine. But Sunday it's snow turning to freezing rain.

This was no blizzard, the media is so sensational.

Well i left Manhattan at around 2 pm today and arrived in Ottawa at around 10:30 pm. There was no snow or ice on the roads, completely clean. Plenty of idiots though.
A all around smooth drive on summer performance tires... 😛
