safe to buy used phones?

i just bought a samsung Edge used from Swappa.
im sure the phone will work fine but should i be worried about apps running in the background? i will factory reset it but im told some apps cant be wiped clean.
anyway i can find out if the phone has keyloggers and location tracking running in the background?

a) check that samsung knox isnt' tripped and bootloader is still locked

b) do a factory reset

c) if you are still paranoid, restore the full stock ROM via Odin (computer), so that you know that the ROM on the device is fully stock

If you bought a 7 Edge, considering that all of them have bootloaders that are completely locked, there no chance at all that malicious software will survive a reboot, much less a wipe. The system is loaded from a locked, encrypted and write-protected partition to a virtual location at runtime and any changes are reverted upon boot.
