Safe temps for 700 Tbird & A7V

I have a 700 MHz Tbird (noc) and an Asus A7V mb. The
temps I'm getting with the bios are:

36C MB Idle
38C MB Load
48C CPU Idle
51C CPU Load

These temps seem high to me. Will I damage the CPU/MB
or shorten their life running at these temps?

Hmm... they are a bit high, what heatsink are you using?

Did you remove the blue covering off the thermal pad?

I'm using a CoolerMaster, not sure of the model. I haven't
removed the thermal pad on the HS.

No, what I meant is that there is a blue plastic cover over the thermal pad. Did you remove the cover?

Sorry Mike, I miss read the question. I didn't remove the plastic
cover, but the system came with the heatsink already mounted.

Those temps don't frighten me.... They won't cause damage I doubt, but probably it affects performance and might cause lockups...

They are a bit high, but still fine. And considering the accuracy questions about all of the the via chipsets, who knows how close it is?

PLuS- the temperature difference between your MB and cpu is fairly close...The thing that raises a warning flag for me is that all of the temps are high... Either you could use more system cooling (like a 120mm in front, a good heatsink means nothing if it doesn't have good case cooling to back it up) or you thermistors on the MB could be off.

What other cooling do you have in your system? I suspect you need some additional system cooling...

The only fans in the system are the CPU and the power supply. I'm
trying to scrap up a 120mm fan to put in the front to see if that
helps.

Thanks for the help, Dr. Hemlock

The CPU temps are ok, although in general I would shoot for about 45 deg. under load. More fans would definately help you alot.

MB temp is a little high. Once again more cooling would help. Try this site if you are looking for fans and stuff like that.

You should be Ok ,they are slightly high,my own T-bird 900mhz with Taisol heatsink/fan gives

41c idle
44-45c average load
48c maximum load,

Some Case fans should help,if you are not getting any lockups ,then don`t worry about it since it`s within safety range.

temps repoted by the a7v built in hardware monitor as compared to the readout of the compunurse thermal probe are 3-4c above actual temprature. this was the case with multiple a7v boards under various a7v bios's.

So in order to get a more acurate reaout of your cpu temps subtract 3c from those temps and asume they may still be 1c too high.

I've put in 2 fans, one in front, one in back.

Under load, the MB temp is 30C, CPU is 48C. The fans
definitely help the MB temp.

Thanks for the info/advice everyone.
