Safe sex is about to get more expensive, now that Congress has levied a new tax on condoms - and bedpans, bandages and thousands of other implements - to help pay for the just-enacted $940 billion health care overhaul.
The change is courtesy of a 2.3 percent excise tax on medical devices that was embedded in the final version of the health care package and is expected to raise $20 billion over the next 10 years.

The final measure kept exemptions for eyeglasses, contact lenses, hearing aids and other retail products.
I thought that the Democrats were trying to lower the cost of these things....
