Safe Mode With Networking Doesn't Work

I recently upgraded my motherboard to an Nforce 3. Formatted & reinstalled Windows XP Home. Everything works fine except.

I want to be able to use safe mode with networking. But it doesn't work. I'm choosing safe mode with networking. Networking adapters does not show up in device manager. Nothing is listed under network connections.

I do get an event log error message after logging into Safe Mode with Networking:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: DCOM
Event Category: None
Event ID: 10005
Date: 12/28/2006
Time: 12:10:06 PM
User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM
Computer: LOPESFAMILY
Description:
DCOM got error "This service cannot be started in Safe Mode " attempting to start the service EventSystem with arguments "" in order to run the server:
{1BE1F766-5536-11D1-B726-00C04FB926AF}

I've tried updating my onboard Nforce 3 drivers to 5.11. Didn't help.
Dcom Service Process Launcher is set to automatic under services.

Anyone have any ideas? I googled and couldn't find any help.

I've encounted this problem several times over the years on various computers. I recommend picking up a cheap USB NIC.
