Safe A64 Overclocks

Ok, going to get to work on my Venice soon (tomorrow hopefully!).

These chips default at 1.4v. Is there a general rule of thumb when overclocking for the safe zone (ie. not frying the chip)?

Assuming good cooling, I know generally, 1.4v-1.5v is safe. I also know temperatures are most important, and keeping around 60 Cel. (or less) under load is desirable.

But, what if you're in the 1.5v-1.6v (or higher) range, yet keeping your temps very reasonable? Are you still at risk then?

It depends on your chip and what you want out of it really. It seems that most people with Venice cores on here are unable to get past 2.5-2.6 unless they use a vcore of 1.6v or higher. You should look in the Venice OC thread to see what people have gotten so far.

I've been following that thread. I did see some people go 1.6v or higher, just wondering if that is something you want to leave your cpu at on a permanent basis.

Not sure about the Venice, but my overvolted (1.65V) Newcastle's still healthy, and doesn't run much warmer than @ 1.5V (stock).

As long as your temps are good I don't see much of a reason to worry about it. If you are truly that concerned about it, then I would say stick with a more mild overclock. See what you can get with 1.5v and if you're happy with it, then see what you can get with 1.6v. Just to see, then determine if you feel that it is worth the extra voltage for the extra mhz.....

Cool, thats nice to know. Maybe there I should start a poll or something 🙂
