Saddam could vote in Iraq elections, but not for himself: official

Saddam has the right to vote if "his name is on the electoral list", said Hindawi.

The electoral list is based on records of who had ration cards used under the UN oil-for-food programme, which intended to help ordinary Iraqis offset the effect of sanctions meted out for Saddam's invasion of Kuwait in 1990.

It is not known whether Saddam had a ration card.

Captured in December 2003, Saddam is in US custody, awaiting trial on at least seven charges of crimes against humanity.

I wanted saddam to run...
In a true democracy, anyone should be allowed to run.

If the Iraqi people elect him, they will truely be expressing their freedom.

I do however agree that Saddam should be tried first and serve whatever sentance given.

He did run, we found him hiding in a hole.

I wanted Saddam to run too, he would have lost but it would be a win for true democracy.

And it would be a lot better than to spit him in the face.
